Obama told BP exec: It's all about Gulf residents

Does this count as emoting yet?

......................

But in an interesting twist, Obama appears to have departed from the legalistic prepared remarks to ad lib details of a private conversation with BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, in which he urged the exec to remember the victims of the tragedy when he's in his boardrooms and talking to shareholders:

*****One last point. During a private conversation with Chairman Svanberg, I emphasized to him that for the families that I met with down in the Gulf, for the small business owners, for the fisherman, for the shrimpers, this is not just a matter of dollars and cents. That a lot of these folks don't have a cushion.

They were coming off of Rita and Katrina, coming off the worst economy that the country's seen since the Great Depression. And this was going to be the season where they were going to be bouncing back. This happened from their perspective at the worst possible time...

So I emphasized to the chairman that when he's talking to shareholders, when he's in meetings in his boardroom, to keep in mind those individuals. That they are desperate. And some of them, if they don't get relief quickly, may lose businesses that have been in their families for two or three generations. And the chairman assured me that he would keep them in mind. And that's going to be the standard by which I measure BP's responsiveness.

9. speeches are nice
But what is he doing?

In short, how much more measuring of BP's responsiveness do we need before we can say that it objectively sucks ass?

I am not really interested in how much Obama emphasized or even if he emphasized most sternly.

I am interested in BP held legally responsible and made to clean up the mess the same way anyone doing community service is made to clean up messes. I want the power of BP to block journalists and workers removed. I am interested in BP being forced to not see this as a PR problem but as a "You might be going to jail so what you do now will help your case" problem. I am interested in not being dependent on the company that caused the disaster to be the ones to try to fix it.

I am interested in the President in 2016 not telling us how safe offshore drilling is and then later telling us how we need to start getting off our addiction to oil after a huge spill that no one can fix. (you know, that line presidents have been giving us since the 70s)

Seriously, this whole "Emote" thing is a distraction.

11. South Carolina should already have boom put up NOW
& no boats going in & leaving-put up double walls of boom, so oil can be skimmed first, & then boats could go into protected waters.

Build sandbars off-shore big enough to catch incoming oil, use those damn mega- machines already.
