11. You are right but I think if we want to have discussions |
|
on a discussion board it helps to explain yourself, most importantly when the discussion calls for questioning said support.

10. Yea, I wasn't wading into the frey but now I am... |
|
I don't mind criticism because that is what we democrats do...
But for people to go on and on about why Obama hasn't changed the world by now is just silly and shows that a lot of people have unrealistic expectations and lack historical perspective.
I am fully aware that this stems almost directly from how the last president acted while in office and also what the last president actually did.
But anyone who has studied politics should know that it is much easier to rally people behind the "no" than it is to convince people to change their way of life.
It is also really easy to take advantage of an attack to institute massive change. It's much harder to undo those changes when the people don't see a problem with what was done.

12. You make unsupportable assumptions |
|
Your position comes from an assumption that Obama would like to pass much of the legislation people would want, but can't. It isn't really apparent that is true. He fights for things that aren't popular around here and brags on Fox that he rejects progressive ideas. He does things he campaigned against.
The conclusion from much of this is easily that he is doing roughly what he wants to do, not that he is unable to accomplish what he wants to accomplish. He campaigns for people such as Specter and Lincoln. He isn't forced to, he makes those choices. He chose the cadiallac tax over other more progressive taxes. No one is forcing him to make these choices, these are what he WANTS to do.

16. Every one of my assumptions is supportable since I have been working in |
|
the political realm for a good part of my life.
I actually earned a living working behind the scene for largest democratic organization between New York and Chicago.
And if you really knew anything about what goes on in the political world you would understand that Specter and Lincoln are incumbents that still will be there after the primary's are over. A full eight months where they will be acting on legislation whether they win or loose.
Honestly, you tell me when was the last time a successful president went out and worked against incumbents in his own party.
This isn't high school student council this is real politics with real implications where people have to marshal often hostile members to their side.
And what do you really know about Halter except that he was able to say anything without any real consequence. Being the Lt. Governor of a state usually means your actions impact absolutely nothing so that you have no need to watch what you say.
I don't agree with president Obama 100%. I also don't agree with him 90%. 80% or even 70% of the time.
But I do know that he has got to deal with all the crap that has been building up over the last 30 years or so.
I really feel sorry that you get your undies all up in a bunch because Obama picks his battles carefully and that he goes on Fox News and says an unfortunate comment.

I suggesting that your assertion that he is being forced to do things he doesn't want to do was unsupported (it was) and potentially is as easily refuted as supported (which it is). We are discussing the motivations for his actions. Technically neither of us know. What I am suggesting is that at some point one has to acknowledge he's generally doing what he wants to do, not what he has to do.

I find it hard to believe he's going to get to the end of his administration and write the book that says he didn't get to do any of the things he wanted to do, he just passed whatever congress dreamed up. At some point, he's getting things the way he wants them, at least to some point.
He wants to continue to fight in Afghanistan. He wants to continue to fight in Iraq. He wants to avoid a complete take over of health care by the government He wants to be able to hold people indefinitely in a Gitmo like facility. He wants to drill for more oil in the Gulf. He doesn't want the Volker rule. He really does prefer Cadillac taxes to more progressive ones.
He wants these things, or at least "believes they are the right thing to do". These things aren't being forced upon him by congress or the people. His choices, his decisions. Heck, he's fighting congress on these things to some extent.

Maybe not. But that kind of makes political discussion irrelevant, doesn't it?

I support certain goals and policies. I support a candidate that supports more of those goals and policies above the candidate that does not. Am I making any sense?

25. I don't think it's necessary for DUers to slam on other DUers who |
|
are not "quite" happy with the administration.
I don't think people with 12 items should be allowed in the 10 items or less lane (even if three of those items are identical cans of peas).
I also don't think either of those things is going to happen anytime soon.
