Florida gets a case of Arizona envy
It seems that the Republicans who make the laws in Tallahassee don’t want to be left behind Arizona when it comes to making people show their papers.

My friend received a notice that it’s time to renew her driver’s license. She needs to bring her old license, her social security card, her birth certificate, and her marriage certificate if her name is different from that on her birth certificate. (Originals are required.)

Many people may or may not have all these items. And depending on the state (or country) in which they were born or married, it can sometimes be difficult to get originals replaced.

You’d think that your old driver’s license would be sufficient. After all, it’s extremely difficult to forge a Florida driver’s license – even an old one. And if you knew a top rate forger and had sufficient cash, couldn't you just as easily get forged birth and marriage certificates?

This is a relatively new state law and it's my fervent hope that most of those who vote Republicans into state office don’t have all the required items. It may make them think twice about who they vote for. Then again, it may not matter. This being Florida, the person who gets the most votes is not necessarily the person who wins an election.

3. I am not the one that decided to deride Florida elections
If this new law is as a result of election irregularities, do you think they are limited to Florida?

8. People born on or after December 1, 1964, will have to obtain a REAL ID by December 1, 2014.
Those born before December 1, 1964, will have until December 1, 2017 to obtain their REAL ID

Before a card can be issued, the applicant must provide the following documentation:<16>
A photo ID, or a non-photo ID that includes full legal name and birth date.
Documentation of birth date.
Documentation of legal status and Social Security number
Documentation showing name and principal residence address.

Digital images of each identity document will be stored in each state DMV database.

Most states has started implementing these requirements on their own time line.

10. Thanks for the info, SunnySong. You should really start a thread on this
as my guess would be that many are as ignorant as I am regarding these new requirements.

5. I have a florida ID
it was really easy to get one a few years ago. Just another state's driver license (which I didn't have to give up) and a letter with an address on it. I renewed it online with showing nothing. They have really changed the philosophy.

7. Have you seen Rick Scott's ad attacking Bill McCollum for opposing Arizona's law?
http://www.rickscottforflorida.com/home/2010/05/24/rick-scott-supports-the-arizona-immigration-law/

Of coures McCollum has since come out in favor of Arizona's law.
