my theory: mcchrystal did it on purpose. |
|
this was NOT an accident.
mcchrystal doesn't want to be the general who failed, he wants to be a politician or a book-writer or a speaker-tour general or a consultant. he wants out.
but how?
he can't quit, that only works for failed runners-up in beauty contests and vice-presidential elections. he can't stay, he'll only get the blame as the situation gets worse. at best, he'll be the general who oversaw an orderly withdrawal. yippee.
so he had to screw up and get himself fired.
what's the LEAST SELF-DAMAGING thing he could do that would get him fired? criticize obama, something the entire right wing would support him for anyway. hell, it's a preview of his next career, i'm sure.
obama fires him, he takes a couple lumps, and now he's free to criticize obama all the more.
this time with campaign contributions.
just watch.

Lack of sleep affects people's physical and mental performance.

3. Maybe...pretty calculating if so, but then again, that's what Generals do. |
|
Whatever flak he catches from all this will probably just help any future book sales. And Lord knows I think people are totally capable of this kind of thinking....

4. Not a bad theory. He's got a bright future ahead. |
|
He'll lay low for awhile, image rehab, and then become a paid consultant on TV or elsewhere.

7. there isn't much that is critical of Obama in the RS article |
|
McC says that Obama seemed "intimidated" in a room full of Generals at their first meeting. They play with Biden's name. But what else?
Am I missing something?

8. That's why Obama should decline any offer of resignation |
|
And do something to publicly humiliate this douchebag, something that will permanently damage his credibility with the lunatic fringe.
Otherwise the asshole will become a fixture on wingnut radio and cable news, and the liberal media will drool over him like they do over Palin.

29. Someone on DU yesterday suggested the Obama should "make him his bitch." |
|
Put the resignation in a drawer. Keep him occupied in AFghanistan or some other place far away where it is difficult for him to have a mouthpiece for the garbage he spews and fosters others to spew.

Seemed pretty quick to offer his resignation.
And he's even started working on political slogans like "Biden- bite me".

19. He's SET FOR LIFE...he can go to Think Tanks or do Military Contracting involved in New Tech that |
|
Goldman-Sachs will pump to the HIGH HEAVENS...for STOCK WORTH.
THIS is the NEW MILITARY...tied into Wall St....and not your Tom Brokow's "Greatist Generation" who died in the "Old America." This NEW GROUP makes MILLIONS and BILLIONS depending on which Think Tank and Hedge Fund they are tied in to.
I think that President Obama never realized the extent the MIC was INVOLVED with WALL ST.! But...He is LEARNING!

He just submits his retirement papers to the Chief of Staff of the Army. He has his time in to qualify for retirement. The only way to affect his retirement would be a court martial and the discovery phase might be very embarrassing to the administration. There would be a lot of leaks to the vultures in the media. Best to just let him go in peace and have his fifteen minutes of fame like MacArthur.

18. Hey...I think you've hit on a plausible explanation of why this General would Freak Out |
|
and cause a "Three Strikes and You are Out" rukus! Obama didn't fire him on his First Two Strikes...so now he's GOING FOR BROKE!
What the HELL IS GOING ON HERE, though. How does this "Advantage" Obama who is our President to have this Media Storm where he is being attacked by McCrystal......and it's the BIG MC's THIRD STRIKE?
How does the rest play for Obama? General "MC" will find fame and fortune from the Think Tanks that supported Rummy and Cheney.....but what about OBAMA and our DEMOCRATIC PARTY?
I think it was a "SET UP"...but I can't prove and your explanation doesn't go into that..but I think it's definitely an interesting one that might be true.

and he doesn't want another Fallujah hung around his neck. It's bad for his image. He should be busted to PFC and put on point.
Let him put that experience in his book.

25. Interesting theory; however, |
|
what he did is in violation of the UCMJ. As such, he can (and should, imo)be Courts-Martialed. If found guilty, he could be subject to loss of all benefits, dishonorable discharge, and up to one year in the brig.

McChrystal comes off as the kind of person who tends to run his mouth, and I think that's what happened here.
