CNN cheering General Petraeus.appointment! More killing of civilians good... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-23-10 12:59 PM by KoKo
According to Barbara Starr (CNN's Pentagon Reporter)General McChrystal had problems with his troops saying they were fighting with "one hand tied behind their backs" because McChrystal wanted civilians protected. She went on to say that General Petraeus appointment will not make the "Doves" in the Senate happy because he has not committed to the Timeline of 2011 for the troops to be out.
I imagine some of the Doves in the Senate will not be happy with killing more civilians but, hey, the Battle of Kandahar is about to begin!
Also, General Petraeus is supposed to have been very tight with Rumsfeld. So, this is disturbing.
UPDATE: Senator Lieberman is ecstatic over this choice. Says that this means there is now UNITY on our policy in winning in Afghanistan. He felt it was an incredible moment in "the President showing leadership in clearly stating that our policy is to win."

4. Apparently "Unity of Command" was what he was seeking. And General Petraeus.is "worshiped" by the |
|
troops...according to MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell. She has met him personally. Apparently the troops line up for hours just to get a glimpse of him when he visits the battlefront...according to Jim Michlechevsky who reports on the Pentagon for MSNBC.

7. Petraeus is the only general that the could replace Stan with that has the respect |
|
Of the troops, the Afghans, and the Congress. He also can step right in without much of a reset since he was already overseeing Afghanistan.
