"the last cheerleader for a dying empire" BuzzFlash.com
We thought President Obama would be leading us into the future of of a non-fossil fuel energy policy, of healing the earth, of economic and social justice.

We didn't think that he would be the last cheerleader for a dying empire, for multi-national corporate corruption, and for an economic system built on worthless paper rather than the work born of production and sweat equity which built America into a bustling nation and won WW II.

Mark Karlin, BuzzFlash.com, July 25

6. I feel totally USED.
I worked over a year to get Obama elected. I gave so much time and even money I did not have. But he's not listening to the people. He's listening to his advisors who seem to be corporate sell outs. I don't get it. What happened to candidate-Obama? What we're asking him to do isn't hard. He could have ended the Afghanistan war by now. He could have had real health care reform passed. He could have repealed DADT in the time it takes to write his signature. And he could have closed Gitmo. But he keeps caving in to the right wing without getting even one of their votes. Obama is not representing the people who got him into office. He has turned his back on us. And for what? Why is he so silent? He should have used the BP disaster to enact a comprehensive energy policy that would be like the Manhatten Project or the Moon Project. But nothing. While Rome burns we the people are getting burned and no one cares.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is even one person with guts in government, just one? It's sad, it's sick and it's destroying our country. Ineptness seems to be their only goal.

13. It's an ugly topic but one we have to address
I love kpete's posts. Glad she put it up.

But it's so important it can do double duty.

These are the most important days, weeks, and months in the nation's history, given the stakes. We don't have time for a learning curve or partial success amidst a general collapse. Where are the jobs? How do we stop the catastrophe in the Gulf? And, as Karlin so ably pointed out, why are we in two wars when we're in peril at home. No net new private sector jobs (for a decade), yet somehow it's OK to pursue an Afghan adventure while we linger in Iraq, against the will of the people to whom we supposedly delivered democracy.

It's not about Obama. It's about a ruling class with blinders.

The message is simple. We cannot have guns and butter.

15. It may be ugly, but it's important

Obama just happens to be our last president when this huge global Ponzi implodes. It could be compared to a Category 5 Hurricane about to cover the world. So much is going on, and it can't be stopped. And so many people are complacent and self-absorbed, they don't see it coming.

Right on point. Think, then think again, dialog (not monologue)is a great place to start.

25. "Rather than the President leading us into the future" So he's leading us into the past?
He reformed the health care system, the first President to ever succeed at doing so.

He is leading a green revolution for the first time.

He is moving on issues largely ignored for nearly four decades.

He is on the verge of reforming the financial system, putting in place reforms that no President since Roosevelt has even attempted.

More from Rachel Maddow.

The only "tank" I see is Karlin's lame commentary.

anything but cheerleaders for a dying empire.

I'm just glad that the empire is, in fact, dying.
