Informants scrutinized in Fort Dix case - did the FBI agent entrap them?
By GEOFF MULVIHILL, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 41 minutes ago

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - He railed against the United States, helped scout out military installations for attack, offered to introduce his comrades to an arms dealer, and gave them a list of weapons he could procure, including machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

These were not the actions of a terrorist, but of a paid FBI informant who helped bring down an alleged plot by six Muslim men to massacre U.S. soldiers at New Jersey's Fort Dix.

And those actions have raised questions of whether the government crossed the line and pushed the six men down a path they would not have otherwise followed.

It is an argument — entrapment — that has been made in other terrorism cases, and one that has failed miserably in this post-Sept. 11 era.

One defense attorney on the case, Troy Archie, said no decision has been made on whether to argue entrapment, but based on the FBI's own account, "the guys sort of led them on."

Rocco Cipparone, a lawyer for another one of the defendants, said he will take a hard look at "the role of paid informants and how aggressive they were in potentially prodding or moving things along."

1. Remember those idiots in FL this admin tried to hype as a big
terrorist threat and attack. It was just a bunch of idiots with no sophisticated knowledge of how or what to do. These guys seem similar in nature. Who if they did not want to get caught would be in a video store on the east coast shouting Islamic verbage?

I don't know but it just sounds strange.

3. the Feds track record is so bad...
they love to make arrests...but when it comes to a court of law they seem to drop the charges and run. Much better this way though, than with non-U.S citizens who get the really silent treatment.

2. Entrapment is a tight wire act
Take under-cover hookers.

They dress like hookers, hangout on the street corner behaving as hookers, near other hookers, in hopes of catching unsuspecting Johns.

Then they play a verbal game. If the guy asks for sex he gets caught and its not entrapment. If the under-cover offers sex then its entrapment. So they both play a verbal game trying with each trying not to implicate themselves...which leads to euphemisms which eventually become synonyms legally admissible as offers in court.

It sounds like the game of catching terrorist like this isn't much different.

4. I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!!!
This sounded too much like what happened in Florida when it turned out FBI infiltrator/informant was the instigator of the terror plot!

6. I wonder why Gonzo didn't hold a presser like he did with the Miami 7?
Maybe he was too busy practicing the right inflection on "I don't recall"

7. Talking to a couple of acquaintences on Monday...
they were echoing the talking point: (if we don't stop them over there, they'll be bombing us over here) My reaction was: NO! They just want us OUT of THEIR country.

Lo! and Behold!

The very next day: another TERRA, Terra, TERRA plot comes to light.

Everyone who watches False News thinks our 'wonderful' Dept. of Homeland security is doing a great job protecting us.

What they don't hear or see is what happened in the next day or two when the PAID informant tells us it was a sting operation from the get-go.

Since the cable news and networks never tell the public exactly how it all went down, they continue to believe some sort of sinister plot was foiled.

My question: How do we get the message out 2, 3 4, or more days after the fact that initial accounts were bogus??????/
