Crist: We Need to Ban Oil Drilling Off Florida
As More Tar Balls Wash Ashore at Pensacola, Governor Wants Special Session to Ban Drilling in Sunshine State Waters
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/28/earlyshow/main6626245.shtml

Calling the spill that has released millions of gallons of oil onto four Gulf States "a devastating, catastrophic event," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said he wants an end to oil exploration off his state's coastline.

In addition to plugging the leak at the site of BP's destroyed Deepwater Horizon rig, Crist said this morning that "We need to stop offshore oil drilling in Florida.

"I would like to have a special session to ban it here in the Sunshine State," he told CBS "Early Show" anchor Harry Smith. "We're so dependent on tourism for our economy, it's very important that we keep (the beaches) clean."

Crist joined other protesters in Hands Across the Sand rallies held this weekend in Florida and across the U.S. and in other countries, promoting renewable energy sources and demanding an end to offshore drilling.

3. Ok but I still don't trust him. But at least he's on the right side with this issue.
Other issues? He seems to be swaying to the left now because he needs the cash. Unfortunately, I just don't know if Meek is going to be able to beat him...

7. Struggling?
I doubt you know what that means.

The Dems have always been the opposition to BP type operations. Crist is a newcomer and has only done so to get himself elected because the 2x4 of the truth slammed him upside his stupid ass republican endowed head.

Struggling? Hard to get your pinkie to even move, eh?

11. There is off-shore drilling in the Kerry-lieberamn climate bill...
...Obama is very pro-off-shore drilling...yeah, I can lift a pinkie...can you find anyone out there who is challenging Obama on his wrong-headedness or just rolling over for him yet again, or do you want to just think, yet again, that the Dems are on our side, which they are increasingly NOT?

13. Here's the thing to struggle with
We have but one party that is anywhere near our position.

And there are plenty of Dems voicing their displeasure of Obama knowing all along that the republicans are in opposition to Obama, too.

You aren't struggling, you are just refusing to understand history.

Here's something to struggle with: The electronic vote counting machinery that is not honestly backed up by audits and proper accounting methods. But you won't do that... it's too much of a struggle.

But why is it that so many crooked republicans are in office?

20. See post #24
BTW, this is FL politics. Crist is to the left of most DLC'ers in this state (which unfortunately comprise a large part of the FL Dem Party). Crist is out of the republicans of FL and it was made clear to him that they don't want him back.

all that "state oil" will still foul Florida beaches, no matter what laws they pass.. Tides don't care who claims the oil...

10. Ya got to hand it to Florida
They could see the BP future.
Well, the Democrats could, and did. Pubbies were always for drilling.

Against tremendous pressure from corporate oil, Florida has kept BP from their shores. And now they get the refuse from states not nearly as wise?

Bad neighbors Florida has. Bad.

Florida should sue Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana for every penny they can get.

21. It'll never happen.
The tea party has this state in a stranglehold in Tallahassee and as soon as Crist is out there will be nobody left to veto their crap pro-corporatist bills.

9. Not in my back yard! Where we stand depends on where we sit.

And if you can think of any other applicable cliches, join in.

Makes a difference when it's up close and personal, doesn't it?
