Whoa! Anyone in the greater (?) Houston area out there that can
get on your 'puter? I'm getting thunder, lightening, tons of rain, hail, and this stuff was supposed to be north of me. Power's gone out once so far...
:scared:

But, I think it will be raining / thundering / lightning thru the night.

Haven't lost power (yet).

7. Excellent riposte.
You Houstonites stay safe - if there's lightening (heavy), get off the computer and don't answer the phone!!

Find shelter in a building or car. Keep car windows closed and avoid convertibles.

Telephone lines and metal pipes can conduct electricity. Unplug appliances. Avoid using the telephone or any electrical appliances. (Leaving electric lights on, however, does not increase the chances of your home being struck by lightning.)

Avoid taking a bath or shower, or running water for any other purpose.

Turn off the air conditioner. Power surges from lightning can overload the compressor, resulting in a costly repair job!

Draw blinds and shades over windows. If windows break due to objects blown by the wind, the shades will prevent glass from shattering into your home.

As always, the American Red Cross has some great advice (I love these people)!

12. Short answer -
"The holiday's name - Pesach, meaning "passing over" or "protection" in Hebrew, is derived from the instructions given to Moses by G-d . In order to encourage the Pharaoh to free the Israelites, G-d intended to kill the first-born of both man and beast. To protect themselves, the Israelites were told to mark their dwellings with lamb's blood so that G-d could identify and "pass over" their homes."

Hence, the first born Jewish babies survived.

18. Thank you for your response, but I have another question.
Why do you write G-d? What's wrong with God? I'm not sure of the whole religion thing, myself, and use HIS name in vain more than I want to, but is writing/typing it somehow wrong for you?

20. sister, that's just the way it was written at the link -
I believe references to Yahweh and God in full form are frowned upon, but I'm not Jewish, so don't quote me!

I have no qualms about God, the Goddess, etc. I just posted the quote as it was written on the site.

We had some strong wind blow down the street, and a lighting storm.

We had small hail.

16. Not in Houston
Some businesses have basements, but I've never known of one in a residence. It's too easy to flood here. We're not all that high over sea level. My niece has a basement, but she's in Fredericksburg, which is about 4-5 hours from here.

14. The heavy rain is back with thunder, lighting, and small hail.
It is not looking good out there.

We already had street flooding.

15. It's just a steady rain here
Earlier, around 8 P.M., there was a lot of lightening and thunder. I'm between Woodlands and Conroe. We had a pretty good display, and lots of noise, and our mine-Schnauzer was scared. Nothing heavy now, I think maybe it's over for here, at least for the firework displays we had earlier. Stay safe. We didn't lose power, but Direct TV was out for awhile.

19. LOL! I remember when we first moved to Corpus Christi, years ago,
we'd call family in MA and tell them we were mowing the lawn in January-because we could!
We're not so 'fun-loving' anymore, and no one wants to hear it.
