Sen. Al Franken 'Takes Notes' During the Elena Kagan Hearings

Senator Al Frank (D - MN), as bored as the rest of the country, sketched his colleague Jeff Sessions (R - AL) during the Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's confirmation hearings. Click through for a bigger image and side-by-side comparison.

What have you been doing during Elena Kagan's confirmation hearings? If you are like most of America, you have been dutifully ignoring them. If you are a Republican senator on the Judiciary Committe, you have been loudly proclaiming how much you hate Kagan's mentor, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, for no particular reason. If you are Al Franken, you have been sketching fellow Senator Jeff Sessions. Hey! You are not that bad a draftsman!

1. I'd Probably Be Doing The Same Thing...
After two days of long drawn out hearings, what have we learned about Ms. Kagen we didn't before this dog and pony show began? Here is an example where having cameras inside the halls of the legislative is not such a great thing. Ms. Kagen has been coached endlessly...all remarks and answers are measured with little revealed while the Senators use these hearings as grandstanding sessions...pushing agendas while the cameras are on.

I mean...who can stomache listening to "questioning" from blowhards like Cornyn and that ilk. I have the luxuary of a remote control and freedom to move about, Al's stuck there waiting his turn while the pontificating swirls around him.

2. Sessions is too full of himself for anyone's own good
From the Washington Post this morning: "We were trying to do two things: to make sure military recruiters had full access to students and protect our anti-discrimination policy," Kagan said.

Sessions was not satisfied. "I'm just a little taken aback," he told her, "by the tone of your remarks."

Tone? Bitch, I'm a fucking adult here AND I have way more qualifications in my little finger than you ever will. Instead of trying to take my tone to task, you instead need to work out your rank jealousy with a therapist over you being denied a place on the bench.

3. Black is not his color
A white robe is more his style...with matching hood -- very tasteful.

5. He forgot to draw the asshole in the middle of his forehead.
Is that why it's unrealistic?

7. He should have just drawn a pic of a guy with a sheet over his head.
Would have been a better likeness of Sessions and most of the rethuglican party.

8. On close inspection the sketch could be of any flat-face asshole, but the eyebrows capture it.

He captured the eyebrows of the ignorant perfectly.

9. Second thought: Keep in mind he is the ranking member of a Committee which refused his nomination.
When he was nominated to be a Federal Judge that very same committee he is now the ranking member of denied consent to place him. Bwahahahahahahahahahah!

10. Franken and Sessions are posing
for a photo op during a break in the hearing. Leahy set it up and is snapping picyures with a Nikon dslr.
