Spoken during the break at today's confirmation hearings.

1. He's got no reason to believe otherwise.
We have a fairly decent majority in the Senate (and I don't care where you are on the D scale, you vote to confirm a President's SCOTUS nominee unless you want the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to rip off your head and shit down your neck), and there were at least 8 or 9 Republicans that voted to confirm Sotomayor.

2. I think that's been the general sense since Obama submitted her. I've been
pretty impressed with the few clips I've seen. It's good seeing her come back toe to toe with Sessions and the like.

And it seems she's pretty much charmed Lindsey - like they're now bff's or something. :7

Go Kagen!

5. Probably Hatch...
Not sure. He is much more reasonable than Sessions, that's for sure.

I saw Leahy say this at the lunch break.

4. I don't.
It makes me worry more.

So who is Obama going to appoint to replace Scalia if he gets the chance? He seems to only want appointees who are more right-wing than their predecessors.

6. Obama was, is, and will be a centrist
I hope he has a chance to replace Scalia; if he does, he will nominate someone bright, hard working, accomplished, and thoughtful. The Repubs will demand a right winger, but Obama will offer a moderate.

8. Scalia is 74 years old. He could probably be active for another
10 years or longer. Unfortunately, the five conservative justices on the Supreme Court will probably
be there for a long time to come. Sure hope I am wrong.
