He is a PBS kind of guy. Regular cable audiences can't stay still for a truly in depth interview -- plus translations for foreign guests.
I vote for Bob Costas -- he can do the "popular" thing as well as genially talking to other headliners in the news.

You're probably right about not letting him be himself. He would be all spiffed up with a sharp hairdo, slick suit, some sort of bling-blang all around with lights and action --- instead of the table and the calm totally black background. Leave him where he is, I record him every night and listen when I can.
