Having Doubts: Does anyone else want to renounce some of the radio programming aimed at guys?
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 07:40 PM by Mike 03
I used to get so depressed sometimes that I found huge refuge in programs on XM or SIRIUS that in addition to ratifying our depression about the world, in addition, uninvited, and unfortunately spent a lot of time humiliating women. Sometimes these shows gave me a chuckle, but more and more they are just a huge embarrassment to me. I think people who are alone need to laugh, but I don't think there is anything funny about violence against women.

The people I am talking to have talent. They have enough talent to entertain people without humiliating anybody or disrespecting anyone. It is just not funny, IMO.

I confess, others may disagree, and I can respect that.

I am so sick of seeing females being denigrated by comedians who can do better. My post probably will have no effect, but I wish it could.

1. Personally...
...I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you referring to "shock jocks?" If so, I never thought they were some sort of official "guy programming"...just programming for people with no taste.

2. The clock has been turned back on women's issues
I've noticed that happening for years now. When I was growing up in the late 60s, if you called a woman a "bitch" or "whore" you could look forward to having your balls hung from a stick. Today, its so common that men forgot it was once a big no no. I've seen young men who are worse bigots/sexists than their grandfathers were.

Radio just feeds into it, because its gone round the bend from relevent social issue to legitimate comedy material. Remember that radio is a business, and anything it thinks will get it more listeners will be explored - no matter how ugly, how base or how socially repugnant.

3. If you're turned off by even 'funny' references to violence to women
You can be my friend. I'm not too keen on any violence against anyone and don't find it funny. But that's because I don't hate men, women, children, animals or plants.

5. I'm not sure what you're referring to.
If I listen to XM or SIRIUS it's usually to get a music station without idiotic radio talk shows. I'm guessing we agree.
