War Room
Everyone at MSNBC is such a baby

Liberal blogger Markos Moulitsas was (perhaps temporarily) banned from occasionally liberal cable talking channel MSNBC because he needled conservative MSNBC host Joe Scarborough regarding a touchy incident from Scarborough's past. On Twitter.

Moulitsas is a prominent and influential liberal blogger and a regular on MSNBC's popular "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," but it looks like Olbermann will no longer be allowed to have Kos on his show, because of this Twitter fight.

Here is what happened: Joe Scarborough "Tweeted" that he was convinced that the media was "negilgent" in covering the Joe Sestak "job" "scandal." Kos responded like so:

markos: Like story of a certain dead intern. RT @JoeNBC: Luckily for the White House, the media has been negligent on this story since Day 1.

This is what Markos is talking about: Back in the summer of 2001, Scarborough, who was divorced at the time, announced his intention to retire from Congress to spend more time with his children. Shortly after that announcement, an intern named Lori Klausutis was found dead in his Florida office.

At the time, the national press was obsessed with Gary Condit, a Democratic Congressmen who was all-but-accused of killing an intern whom he'd been sleeping with. No such attention fell on Scarborough. (Then 9/11 happened.)

5. Didn't Donahue get fired for not taking orders about who to have on his show?
Too many liberals and not enough conservative guests. It sounds like this is an ongoing problem.

There are rules on GENBC set by the conservative managers of the network. MSNBC is not your friend.

6. Ultimately Condit was proven innocent.
Sadly it was well after his career was totally fucked.

15. That leads to Marcos point. He is not accusing Scarborough of killing anyone.
He is making a point that a dead "intern" is a career killer for Democrats but not for Republicans. Condit had to lead a life covered with a cloud of unsubstantiated disgrace. Scarborough, under similar circumstances, went on to make a well compensated career.

18. Imagine a dead intern in
ANY Democrat's office. The GOP would be talking about it non-stop for 20 years on 'their' media. And I'm certain there would be a thorough investigation.

8. If he is, it's a mighty fat, wide line
"Like story of a certain dead intern"...

...he didn't name Scarborough.

So if Scarborough wanted to pursue a libel suit, he'd first have to explain...in court...why he thought that Markos was referring to him. I'd say the chances of that are about zero. Scarborough reacted exactly the way one would expect him to...he got his opponent banned from MSNBC. In his mind, he probably thinks he won. In reality, Salon...and others...are discussing the Lori Klausutis thing all over again. The wound has been opened. If Scarborough had simply let the remark pass, there would be no article.

9. Ahh, but the concept the pointy-headed Scarborough and YOU, apparently, can't grasp ...
Edited on Thu Jul-08-10 12:24 AM by Hassin Bin Sober
...is that Markos NEVER hinted Joe S. did a crime. In fact, in the past, Markos referred to the allegation as "tinfoil"

His point was there were two dead interns at the same time and only one congressman lost a career over it. Now the congressman who got off unscathed is moaning about liberal media bias and media not doing their job.

I, on the other hand, am willing to allege a crime. I don't believe any republican who ends up with a dead staffer, a sudden divorce and a mid-congressional-term resignation "to spend more time with the family"

12. That's a valid point. I stand corrected. However,
I have to admit there is something a little curious about his little butthurt act and going as far as getting markos banned from MSNBC. Guilty conscience? Why so sensitive?

20. Good point.
How did she die? Did Joe just hit her in the head with a candlestick? Was she naked? Was there clear obstruction of justice? This would make a great opportunity for some real investigative journalism.

11. I seem to remember Matthew Perry having already gone through those injections
There was one late-period season of "Friends"...don't remember exactly which one, but I do remember reading that it was post-rehab for Perry...and he looked effed UP, all puffy, and he had the giant forehead thing going on. Next season, he "looked like himself" again.

Not like he's accusing Joe to his face on the show. I hope this follows him like Chappaquiddick did Kennedy. It's about time Joe got his just desserts.
