Special Program: Chomsky on the Media

Chomsky on the Media (Part 1)
More Information and Broadcast Times
For more than 40 years, Noam Chomsky has been America's conscience. Part intellectual, part activist, Chomsky is always a sharp critic of the way our Democratic society is run. And these days, he is looking like a prophet. Long before the Iraq war and Saddam's WMD's, Noam Chomsky was warning us: The media, he says, is working for the powerful elites to convince the public to go along with their agenda. Is it true? Are the media merely the puppets of the White House? In this Link TV special, we hear from some of the most fearless journalists in this country, who reveal the forces at work behind the daily news. Part 1 features the landmark film Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media as well as a discussion about Chomsky and his theories with Amy Goodman, host of Democracy Now!. Goodman reveals a personal side rarely seen in her news coverage, and tells us how Chomsky's ideas have influenced her work and life.

Chomsky on the Media (Part 2)
More Information and Broadcast Times
Part 2 features the finale of Manufacturing Consent and a discussion with investigative journalist Greg Palast, author of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy." The special will also show the German film Google – The Power of a Search Engine and a discussion of the film with guest Stuart Chiefet, a former PBS technology reporter.

Special Program: Songs For Change

Songs For Change (Part 1)
More Information and Broadcast Times
In the Link TV special Songs for Change, we explore the spiritual and communal power of music. Part 1 features the documentary Amandla! A Revolution in Four Part Harmony, winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Also, Vusi Mahlasela, "The Voice of Amandla" will be in conversation in our New York studio to talk about the film, his own life experiences and to perform one of his songs.

Songs For Change (Part 2)
More Information and Broadcast Times
In Part 2, we talk with Vusi Mahlasela about his use of music to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in Africa and the ways that he is trying to revive a sense of cultural heritage among South African youth. We will be broadcasting Vusi Mahlasela and Friends: A Benefit for 46664, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, a Link TV exclusive, documenting a concert by Mahlasela in San Francisco.

Special Program: Why They Hate Us

Why They Hate Us (Part 1)
More Information and Broadcast Times
This special explores current U.S. Middle East conflicts in the context of U.S. foreign policy over the past 50 years -- not only in the Middle East, but also Asia, Latin America and the rest of the world. Part 1 features the film Breakdown and an interview with writer and lecturer Michael Parenti, author of "Superpatriotism" and some twenty other books on history, politics and culture.

Why They Hate Us (Part 2)
More Information and Broadcast Times
Part 2 of the special will continue the film Breakdown and show an excerpt from Robert Greenwald's documentary, Iraq for Sale. It also features an in-studio interview with Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of the book "Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer." And to look at one particularly fascinating aspect of how U.S. foreign policy is executed, the special will also feature an interview with Jeremy Scahill, author of the new book "Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army." In it, he contends that our foreign policy is carried out by an unaccountable mercenary army hired by the Pentagon.

Special Program: To Live and Let Go

To Live and Let Go (Part 1)
More Information and Broadcast Times
Something we all share in common as humans is that we must occasionally face heartbreaking circumstances beyond our control. From aging parents to our own heath issues, sometimes the difficulties surrounding us can seem overwhelming. But with adversity comes the opportunity to come to a deeper understanding of ourselves and those we love. Looking around we are surrounded by inspiring examples of people who have done just that. Sometimes we just need reminding. This special program, To Live & Let Go, highlights a few of these amazing stories. Part One of the special features the Academy Award-nominated documentary Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter, a profound and occasionally humorous look at a notoriously difficult disease - Alzheimer's - and at a daughter who must come to terms with her mother's illness. Also screening as part of this special event will be With Eyes Wide Open: Grief and Healing, a deep conversation with everyday people sorting through their experiences of loss and grief. Joining us in the studio to discuss the issues brought up in these films will be Frank Ostaseski, the founder of the Metta Institute, a program that trains professionals in psychological and spiritual care for the dying. Ostaseski guides the conversation in With Eyes Wide Open.

To Live and Let Go (Part 2)
More Information and Broadcast Times
In Part Two of this special we will screen The Breast Cancer Diaries, the story of a 38 year-old news anchorwoman who chose to take the camera out of the studio and into her bedroom to intimately document her own battle with cancer. Jean Rizzo, Executive Director of the San Francisco-based Breast Cancer Fund will be in the studio to talk about environmental factors that cause 1 in 8 American women to suffer from this disease.

Special Program: Growing the Green Movement

Growing The Green Movement (Part 1)
More Information and Broadcast Times
It appears that America is finally waking up to the reality of global warming. While some still want to debate the whys and hows, the most important thing to remember is that we are not powerless as ordinary citizens. In this special program, we present the stories of people committed to making a difference -- people who are willing to take it personally. Part One of the special features the Link TV Premiere of Swim for the River, a portrait of Christopher Swain's monumental journey to become the first man to swim the entire length of the Hudson River. He braves PCB's, toxic sludge, and even a Homeland Security patrol in order to focus attention on the Hudson. Filmmaker Tom Weidlinger will be joining us in the studio to talk about the film and the issues it raises. Also screening will be clips from the documentary Solving the Klamath Crisis, a look at the passionate movement to increase the water flow on the Klamath river in order to save the native salmon. Guest Peter Ferenbach, Executive Director of Friends of the River, will be on hand to talk about this conservation dilemma.

Growing The Green Movement (Part 2)
More Information and Broadcast Times
Screening in Part Two of this special is Transforming Energy, a film about the hope of alternative energy as a solution to the problems of global warming and the end of cheap oil and gas. It takes us into the lives, the passion, the commitment and the hard work of the people who are on the ground now, working to create a new energy paradigm. Guest Mark Hertsgaard has just returned from reporting around the world on climate change. He'll be sharing his experiences in this special. Also screening will be a preview of the acclaimed documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? a tragic-comic take on the rise and fall of the electric car.

Powaqqatsi -- Life in Transformation

Powaqqatsi -- Life in Transformation
More Information and Broadcast Times
Hailed by audiences and critics around the world as "mesmerizing," this second installment of writer/director Godfrey Reggio's apocalyptic "qatsi" trilogy (launched with Koyaanisqatsi in 1982) is "quite simply one of the most magnificent visual and aural spectacles ever made." (LA Daily News). Reggio's sumptuous images are made the more powerful by the music of world renowned composer Philip Glass' landmark score. Bold, haunting and epic in scale, this extraordinary film calls into question everything we think we know about contemporary society. By juxtaposing images of ancient cultures with those of modern life, Powaqqatsi masterfully portrays the human cost of progress. It is a film that engages the soul as well as the mind. Join us for this Special Presentation of a film that brings the cultures and pressures of the modern and ancient world together.

Latin Pulse Special: Bush's Latin Headache

Latin Pulse Special: Bush's Latin Headache
More Information and Broadcast Times
Since his landslide victory in Venezuela's 1998 presidential election, Hugo Chavez has been called "Washington's biggest Latin American headache after the old standby, Cuba," by the Wall Street Journal. Actually Chavez has been challenging US interests in Venezuela for years… but for the most part, the Unites States hasn't taken notice…until now. To find out why, we sent independent journalist, Greg Palast, to Venezuela on special assignment. The result is Finding Bolivar's Heir, a lively documentary that you won't see anywhere else. The report offers a never-before-seen interview with Chavez, insight into Chavez's relationship with the U.S. as well as Chavez's plans for Venezuela, perspectives from opposition party members and raw footage from the slums of Caracas. Greg Palast and LATIN PULSE series producer, Dante Betteo, appear in studio to continue the discussion.

6. Same here.
I got the dish for access to the NFL/NHL games.

Then I found LinkTV. If the NHL/NFL leave, no problem. If LinkTV leaves, I go where they go.

I switched from Comcast to Dish Network just so I could get more progressive programming like Free Speech, and Link TV. I've also been very impressed with UCTV - University of California Television
