"Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot,"
REPLACING PETRAEUS: Defense Secretary Robert Gates tells reporters at the Pentagon that he is nominating Marine Gen. James Mattis, who leads the Joint Forces Command, to be the next commander of Central Command. Mattis would fill the position vacated by Gen. David Petraeus, who has begun his role as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. -- Jennifer DiMascio (2:08 p.m.).

MATTIS: "Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot," Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. "It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling.

4. Our society has carefully taught him that
Why shouldn't he internalize the lessons so pervasively and assiduously inculcated in our citizens? Everything from leisure activities to the most serious advertising we can put together carries the message that it's fun to shoot not just some people, but practically any people. This is a natural and predictable product of a culture dominated by violence. I'm not quite sure why some folks still pronounce themselves "shocked" when some of this violence hits close to home, but that may be a feature rather than a bug.

5. A DUer has posted today about going to go stomp homeless people to death, and
an alert is ignored.

SO, yes, this society allows and encourages all violence.

Even "progressives".

Shocked? Not so much.........

6. "Actually it's quite fun FOR ME TO SEND PEOPLE to fight them, you know."
I'd be interested in seeing exactly what Gen Tough Guy's actual combat record is. My guess is he hasn't really done a lot of "brawling".

7. None of his bios go into much detail
He commanded combat units in the first Iraq fracas and he has the Marine Combat Action Ribbon and the Bronze Star with V. Just how far out in the wind he hung his ass ? He never commanded any boots on the ground platoon.

9. In other words, he is par for the course.
He's a professional killer. He wouldn't do it if he didn't enjoy it.
