US citizen children of spies, deported without so much as a whimper of public outcry |
|
I guess a few of the kids who were over 18 did choose to stay, but imagine the upheaval for a 13 or 14 yr old who has only known the US, is a citizen, and now is exiled. I hope their parents all made sure they spoke Russian.
Republicans were very silent about this, no doubt because this is exactly what they have planned for US children of Mexican-born parents who are here. (if they get their way)
I guess the rest of the people who would normally be up-in-arms about this sort of thing were caught unaware because of the speed of the whole thing.
CNN said they had it all worked out on June 11 (before the raids even happened).

1. The anchor baby thing is a myth |

because non citizen parents are deported and their citizen children go with them. Children born in the US to illegal aliens have dual citizenship, US and their parents' country of origin. At 18, they can decide to return here if they so wish.
That's how it should remain.
While the older children of the spies who were deported will have a tough period of adjustment, likely they will survive it. Some will choose to return here, some will choose to stay there.
That's just how the whole citizenship thing works.

2. The kids weren't deported. You can't "deport" a USC. Not yet, anyway. |

Believe me, the Founding Fathers would have been appalled by the suggestion that a citizen can be exiled because of the immigration status or crimes of their parents - or, even a person's own crimes. Very Un-American, that notion. Very.

3. Do you have any textual evidence at all |

for that assertion? Plenty of tories fled the revolution, taking their children with them to Canada or England. Where was the outrage?
