Nelson Mandela arrives at the stadium in Soccer City Soweto |
|
I'm in tears - everyone is standing to greet him. This is awesome - look at the smile on his face. Vuvuzelas are blasting through the air.

8. Same reason the IOC bans pencils from the Olympic village |
|
They think their monopoly over who gets to broadcast things will be destroyed by random video clips.

The technology has left them ages ago. I remember the 2000 Olympics in Australia and how the IOC tried to block results. They lost out big time and technology is even more advanced now. Look at the crap with Usain Bolt and US coverage of 2008. Everyone except the US people saw him run live but NBC had to control their delayed coverage.
Here's Morgan Freeman, Naomi Campbell et al - BBC has great coverage - we have a great feed.

3. What are you watching? |
|
I've got the ABC pre-game on and I haven't seen Mandela. Maybe I missed it.
Oh, and those vuvuzelas have been a real negative in this tournament. Though, as the games have gone on I have gotten used to it some.

11. We have the BBC feed here in Jamaica |
|
It's absolutely fabulous - we had the opening ceremony, the arrivals of celebs (still showing some) and interspersed we have the teams' roads to the finals. Teams on the field for warm ups. The Dutch are unbeaten to date but they have reached the finals three times and not got it done. WIll anything change today.

13. The irony of today's final |
|
Johan Cruyff, the great Dutch footballer of Ajax and Barcelona - the man who changed football at Barca and gave them a title for the first time in decades has had more influence on the rise of Barca players to dominate the Spanish team. Perhaps the sweetest part of his choosing Barca was when he told them he could not choose Real Madrid because of their links to the fascist Franco.
So now we watch the Netherlands with their total football versus the power of Barcelona's players. By the way Barca are like the Green Bay Packers - people owned.

12. MANDELA is in the house & now so is the Cup its own self!1 It was carried in |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-11-10 01:28 PM by UTUSN
in a Lock Box, to be presented by the retiring champs. MANDELA was "persuaded" (heavy pressure) to interrupt his grieving for his granddaughter to be present. Here's what ONE sounds like, very unlike the continuous drone of them altogether: http://deadspin.com/5583652/annoying-use-of-vuvuzela-throughout-history-the-final-chapter
