6. That always makes it feel better
I especially like it when they give themselves a raise and then turn around and give us all one, too! Special! I didn't care if they could get good affordable insurance when they gave us the same thing. It's like tit for tat.

Wait! WAIT!! WTF!

8. You need to be more pragmatic about this
When the first wave of catfood eaters die quickly, it will cause a social security surplus for the younger generation.

14. That's what the republicans never-ending wars & trillion dollar military budget
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 12:55 PM by GreenTea
are all about - makes the rich and corporations, richer and at the same time it guts and destroys every social program as all our tax dollars goes for wars for profit and imperialism as well as the dumping trillions into the Pentagon and corporations receiving billions of dollars in subsidies (corporate welfare) with our tax dollars - Screw the workers & the people....This has been a long planned republican agenda and eight years of Bush achieved it.

15. And it continues despite the republicans not being in the majority
in congress.

War funding has gone unabated, and a couple of budgets have been passed.

It often appears that having a (D) or (R) alongside their names makes no difference - it is business as usual.

17. The sad thing is that even if they eliminated their congressional pensions,
they would all still be fine.. These people are in it for what comes AFTER they are done with "public service"..and for the connections to big jobs for their wife & kids.

http://webecoist.com/2010/04/09/architecture-of-a-recession-abandoned-housing-developments/

This abandoned development in Rio Vista, California is perhaps the most visually impressive example of the American dream gone wrong. The 750 homes that were meant to be built here will likely never be realized, and the streets and sidewalks which were meant to support the development’s residents sit desolate and unused.

26. Here is a google map link to an entire city like that (California City, CA)
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 01:59 PM by Statistical
also mentioned in your article.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=california+city,+ca&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=50.823846,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=California+City,+Kern,+California&ll=35.133457,-117.985504&spn=0.012933,0.01929&t=h&z=16

While it does have some development one can see that within the city limits 90%+ (especially further from city center) are simply empty lots. Tens of thousands of empty lots (and have been for 50+ years). Part of me wants to build a dozen of those lots and leave them for my future great great grandkids. Got to be worth something on a long enough time horizon (70+ years).

For those interesting in "spying" here is a link to the Rio Vista development.

then you need to get elected to congress. They retire at 50 while we wait until 70, must be nice.

They still get CARS, and other perks besides their salaries and fab pensions.

Are we serfs yet?
