Jon Kyl: Extend Bush Tax Cuts For Wealthy Even If They Add To Deficit
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 01:54 PM by laughingliberal
Top Senate Republican Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) insisted on Sunday that Congress should extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans regardless of their impact on the deficit, even as he and other Republicans are blocking unemployment insurance extensions over deficit concerns.

"You should never raise taxes in order to cut taxes," said the Arizona Senator during an appearance on Fox News Sunday. "Surely Congress has the authority, and it would be right to -- if we decide we want to cut taxes to spur the economy, not to have to raise taxes in order to offset those costs. You do need to offset the cost of increased spending, and that's what Republicans object to. But you should never have to offset cost of a deliberate decision to reduce tax rates on Americans."

White House aides immediately seized on the comments. Press Secretary Robert Gibbs wrote on Twitter, "Kyl says wealthy need big Bush tax cuts while middle class families are on their own to fend for themselves as a result of Bush economy."

In private, administration officials say that the framing of the argument couldn't be more advantageous: "It's cutting taxes for the wealthy and letting the unemployed to fend for themselves," said one White House ally.

An excellent response from the White House! We need to see this every day!

1. Their view on the deficit.
It doesn't matter how much we go into debt when it comes to perks for the wealthy and the wars. Healthcare for the needy and unemployment benefits for those out of work must be cut though!

2. Good to see the WH recognize that Kyl's is the ReBPublican's new fair-haired boy.
Excellent response, too.

3. Funny. No support for the President when he stands up for the people against the wealthy.
I think this may be the smartest response I've ever seen this White House make in response to the a Republican elitest asshat.

4. The reason repugs will NEVER have a balanced budget.
It takes no guts at all to say "I'm rich, I think I'll give myself a great big tax cut. It takes a lot of guts to say "I'm rich, I can pay my fair share."

17. It just blows my mind to hear the GOP talk about deficits. They have a real bad case of amnesia.

The GOP talking about deficits is the biggest joke in America right now. Completely laughable.

at the end.

the bush tax cuts are one of the reasons we're in this mess.

"Together with the economic downturn, the Bush tax cuts and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq explain virtually the entire deficit over the next ten years (see Figure 1)."

16. The Real Con Job...
It's amazing to see and hear so many who are ready to hand the keys back to the rushpublicans as if everything bad that's happened occured since the Democrats took the House and Obama became president. The corporate media has enabled the right wing talking points that I even see used by Democrats...buying into the big lies that are the real cause for the economic bankruptcy of this country. But c'est la vie.

And how do the Democrats fight back? Crickets....

Unfortunately many good opportunities by Democrats and this administration have been squandered and the non-stop attacks on it are starting to really bear fruit. I'm listening to a ton of callers on CSPIN with "no confidence" in this President as if he's the cause of problems and somehow those who created this mess will somehow get us out. They're willing to vote not only against their own interests but to buy the talking points of a corrupt party that has proven over the past 30 years to be a fisical disaster to the economic health of this country.

It's sickening...

18. Jon Kyl and his rug used to be the two biggest pieces of shit in Arizona
At the moment, he's been eclipsed by the Unholy Trinity of Brewer, Pearce, and Arpaio. But he's still a piece of shit. And even by Kyl "standards", this was unbelievably stupid of him to say.
