BP Says Cap Is Repaired and Cutoff Test Can Proceed
<snip>

"After a new setback because of a hydraulic leak, BP prepared Thursday to pick up where it left off the day before: with a crucial test that could stop the rush of oil from its well in the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since the disaster began three months ago.

Overnight, engineers using remotely operated submersibles replaced equipment on the tight-sealing cap at the top of well, 5,000 feet under water, said Kent Wells, a senior vice president of the company.

The equipment, part of a choke line that will be the last valve to be closed during the test, had been found to be leaking late Wednesday.

With the repair made, “we’re looking to start this test as soon as we possibly can,” Mr. Wells said Thursday morning in a conference call with reporters."

3. I worked as a maintenance supervisor in a steel mill.
We were doing a relatively simple ( relatively trivial!) rebuild of a conveyor table. A company VP dropped by and quizzed me on whether we'd be back up and running as planned.He wanted a yes or no. I tried to explain to him that all I could give him was a probably. The table needed repaired. If we found what I expected to find when we opened everything up, we'd be on schedule. I knew of at least a dozen possibilities that would cause a delay. I had assumed some of those possibilities and built them into the plan. That didn't mean I could guarantee that everything was hunky dory.

Planning for a job like this involves a certain amount of solid data plus a certain amount of inferential data. Kudos to the Coast Guard or whomever for insisting on stepping back and reanalyzing the situation as it develops.

4. yesterday I heard that the steel used to build the cap
was not the best kind. It was a cheaper quality of course. What the hell else could we possibly expect from BRITISH PETROLEUM. They could give a fuck about the USA.

FUCK YOU BRITISH PETROLEUM! :puke:
