Archive April 2010: WellPoint Routinely Targets Breast Cancer Patients
Sigh. I just knew I remembered that name from somewhere.....

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latest-news/exclusive-wellpoint-routinely-targets-breast-cancer-patients

...That tens of thousands of Americans lost their health insurance shortly after being diagnosed with life-threatening, expensive medical conditions has been well documented by law enforcement agencies, state regulators and a congressional committee. Insurance companies have used the practice, known as "rescission," for years. And a congressional committee last year said WellPoint was one of the worst offenders.

But WellPoint also has specifically targeted women with breast cancer for aggressive investigation with the intent to cancel their policies, federal investigators told Reuters. The revelation is especially striking for a company whose CEO and president, Angela Braly, has earned plaudits for how her company improved the medical care and treatment of other policyholders with breast cancer.

1. Wellpoint needs to make cash - this helps them
And is perfectly legal as they are "aggressively investigating" their clients -
If their clients "lied" "didn't know/disclose" a condition = wellpoint can cut them off.

Wellpoint does not exist to heal the sick - they exist to profit off healing the sick.

2. For sure.
And now, Liz Fowler, formerly from Wellpoint, will be implementing the new Health Care bill.

Ain't is great?

4. I've had my BC/BS Carefirst policy for almost 30 years.
My breast cancer could not be considered pre-existing. I have had excellent care from the hospital and clinic. And Medicare and BC/BS has been very good about paying for..chemo, radiation, all treatments, medicine and I was instructed to file a receipt to have my wig paid for thru the insurance company, Medicare does not cover that. I thank goodness every day that my insurance covers me. I don't know where I would be if I had to pay for this. I think of all the women who go untreated because they were "kicked" out of their insurance company or did not have insurance.

My "cousins" (a branch of our family) that moved to Canada in the 1880's, have excellent health care there and they pay nothing in most cases. I know this country is bigger in the number of people here but how in the world did we get to the place we are today with being controlled by big business and corporations. One word. Republicans.
