I think I speak for everyone when I say, “What’s good for Goldman Sachs and Exxon is good for America.” Those two companies, plus many more, have mapped out where they want to go and in what direction our country should move. And we can’t let anything divert us from our desired course. Whether the subject is offshore drilling, Social Security, privatization of public property, or tax cuts… we need to push on. Regardless of what I like to call, “external nuisances.”
There is some very crazy talk going on in Liberal America because of this oil spill in the Gulf. They want a temporary moratorium on offshore or deep-water drilling. Their excuse is they want to make sure it’s done safely. Some in Liberalville have gone so far as to suggest cutting back on our consumption. And who’s that going to help? No one, really. Except the scientists that are trying to get rich off of this global warming controversy - but that’s about it. Would we want to cut back on our nuclear weapons manufacturing because of one or two warheads exploding prematurely? Of course not. Everyone knows the more nuclear weapons there are in the world, the safer we are. No matter how many accidents we eventually have. The same no-brainer applies to oil drilling. Twenty or thirty years ago people were talking about cutting back on oil consumption and scaling back our nuclear arsenal – unfortunately Ronald Reagan got in on the action and called for a reduction of nuclear weapons. But even conservative icons like Reagan look like communists by today’s standards. We are much better informed about what’s important today than people were a generation or two ago. Why, just ten years ago people thought Hitler was on the right, politically. Those people look foolish and naive in retrospect.
Just one more thing about the environment, fossil fuels and science before I move on. Fox News and talk radio have done a tremendous job of educating people on just how dangerous science is to our way of life. (And I don’t mean the real science that brings us better computers and better television sets. I’m talking about the communist scientists and their science that tell us fossil fuels are finite and burning fossil fuels has consequences.) And they are the masters of re-education. Those two powerhouses, talk radio and Fox News, have not only come out with a much more profitable version of history, they have changed what people were seeing, and they did it in real-time. (Anyone remember, “The upside to civil war?”) So, I say this with the utmost respect for them and their craft, but I’d like to suggest a new motto: Science = Un-American.
In the summer and fall of 2008 many people were reluctant to advocate privatizing Social Security, just because the market lost half of its value. Thank God that lunacy is behind us and we are free to encourage handing Social Security over to Wall Street once again. I was wondering what took so long to get this conversation back on track. In today’s news cycles, a month is a decade and a year is a lifetime. This axiom can be demonstrated very easily by pointing out that, one year after Osama bin Laden attacked us on 9-11-2001, Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9-11-2001. So, now that we don’t have to worry about every minor fluctuation in the market, we can talk about freedom. It’s not the government’s job to be concerned with the welfare of its citizens. That’s pure communism. The citizens have nothing to do with government in a democracy. So, now that we all agree that government is bad and should have no power to help the elderly or infirm, we can move onto what the government should be able to do. This is a very simple concept. If everything is flowing smoothly and the government is operating as it should, then they should have no power to take your money and give it back to you when you’re too old to work. But, it should have the power to take your money and give it to investors so they can make a profit. That is what government is all about.
Freedom.
Unions and governments are the same in one respect. They did serve a purpose once, but now have outlived their usefulness. One hundred years ago people needed unions because employees were being mistreated. But now unions cut into profits, so they no longer have a reason to exist. If people want to be treated better and make more money, they should own their own company. Who wants to listen to someone whine because they work sixty hours a week and can’t afford food? Who cares? Buy a company like I did – no more problems. (Except those damn unions.) The same with the government. The roads, bridges and power grids have been built so the government has served its purpose. Now it’s time to turn those roads, bridges and power grids over to private companies so we can make some money. Otherwise, all that work of building an infrastructure was for naught. Every time someone gets in his or her car, or even goes out for a walk, they could be paying a company that now owns the street – or even the sidewalk. The possibilities are endless. We could charge people for going to the park, for going for a walk to a different town. We could charge much more for water and electricity, even for going to school. To let that go to waste is criminal. And everyone benefits. They would pay less in taxes because we would also charge for fire and police on an “as needed” basis. Thus saving a great deal of money.
Obviously, if we’re going to make this a more profitable, more American country, we can’t let things like oil spills, recessions or even depressions make us stop and think for too long. That just diverts us from our true goals.
