Not the people’s justice

July 8th, 2010

William Horning

bill@constitutionalsolutions.org

It seems these days that President Obama is intent upon destroying every tradition and institution we hold sacred in the United States. He seems to relish throwing the most outrageous policies or appointees he can find at us, expecting us to take it. Such is the case with his current appointee as a justice on the Supreme Court, Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

I always thought for a person to be appointed to the Supreme Court, they should exhibit sterling character, appropriate experience and of course, a strong desire to uphold the Constitution as it was originally intended. From what I can see, President Obama has thrown reason out the window, and picked one of the worst choices ever made for the court. Kagan is light on experience, has never been before a jury and appears to hold Orwellian views on many issues.

You could say Obama was just looking for consistency in our Federal government. Since Goldman Sachs seems to run just about everything else in Washington, D.C., why not have a former member of their Research Advisory Council on the court. She worked for them from 2005 to 2008 while Dean of Harvard Law School. That service was worth $10,000 in 2008 according to disclosure forms.

Then again, you might say that she had superb political training from her early mentor in politics, William Jefferson Clinton. Since she served as an aide in Bill Clinton’s White House, she would be able to handle tough legal decisions requiring an extensive knowledge of the English language. I am sure she could handle any difficult disputes over the meaning of words, such as "is".

As Solicitor General, she did not argue the government’s position in the McDonald v. Chicago gun case, and she did not even file a brief as is normally done for important constitutional cases. Oh well, she was probably just trying to keep her record "clean" just in case the current opportunity came along. After all, reports say she was part of the Clinton White House gun-control efforts. Why wouldn’t a Supreme Court justice candidate with Clinton training go against 90 milling American gun owners?

2. From one of his opinion pieces
this is a republic, a country governed by elected representatives. In a true democracy, every one would get a vote on everything. Obviously, imposable.

I guess we can't pose as a Democracy, since it would be imposable

8. I'd seen that paper before, thanks to your earlier posts
The editor is certainly entertaining--I usually laugh out loud at the editorials.

That is someone who would be happy to see sharia law imposed in America--while telling us it's as American as mom and apple pie!!1!1!
