NONE of the Hangzhou UFO photos or video you saw today were from the incident.
I just finished reading an excellent piece on the Hangzhou UFO at a great website called Forgetomori. From footwork by a number of people around the world, it has become apparent that none of the images (save possibly one, and even that is in question) are of the object which closed down the airport in Hangzhou.

They are all the product of news organizations grabbing pictures or video of events which they believe depict something like what shut down the airport at Hangzhou.

I noticed in at least one of the two initial threads there were arguments back and forth between people about whether it looked more like a "UFO" or a rocket. They were both right. Those who thought it looked like a rocket were looking at the video which MSNBC, IIRC, posted. Those who were seeing the alleged stills were looking at something definitely more UFO looking.

The piece linked at the top of my message is a sweet bit of investigative journalism which I just don't see much of now days. Sure, it's just about a UFO. But the author did some great digging and he got to the bottom of the mystery of the day. He tracks down every one of the images, IIRC, and shows where they came from.

We should be so lucky if this guy ever turns that sort of attention to detail to more important topics.

And it's also a reminder of how full of shit the media can be.

1. thank you
This is what I was trying to say earlier. Most of the still photographs appear to me to be long-exposure shots of airplanes and helicopters, and the video looked like a rocket to me.

There is hardly any real news at all these days...and when it comes to sensational stories, all bets are off.

4. Almost two hours later, off and on, I'm still reading articles on that site. Great stuff!
Now if I could only have this dude investigate (fill in the political/corporate blank).

5. Laugh all you want. That 'skeptic UFO website' gets its stuff from pro skeptic Philip J. Klass
The fine print from near the bottom of the OP's source:

Pending further, and much better information, it’s possible that the Hangzhou Airport case may have simply involved a confusion with Venus. Or not. In any event, the media only furthered the confusion by quoting anonymous sources on “military connections” and circulating illustrative images of airplanes, helicopters and even rocket launches seen in Kyrgyzstan.

(The basic information for this post came from Tim Printy‘s short note on the latest SUNlite)

http://home.comcast.net/~tprinty/UFO/SUNlite.htm

For those new to the subject: Phillip J. Klass biography is that of a professional UFO skeptic. He followed Harvard professor Donald Menzel in the role of prominent skeptic. Sort of the Amazing Randis of their field and day.

As with most of the DUers on those threads referenced in the OP, I don't know what it was that people saw in the sky that closed the airport. The Chinese press reported, a censored news service if there ever was one, said it was something real that closed down the airport. Whether they say today they found a stray sub-launched ICBM over their airspace or it was a weather balloon filled with swamp gas, I do know Mr. Klass and his ilk do all they can to confuse people about UFOs and discourage research into it.

So, before everyone who thinks UFOs are nonsense hop on the bandwagon, they may want to learn more about the subject. From what I know and have read, the subject is worthy of serious study. Here are a couple of excellent examples:

Ted Phillips created a catalogue of thousands of UFO reports involving physical traces.

Jacques Vallee uncovered significant patterns to UFO reports based on his computerization of thousands of cases from around the world, many going back centuries.

Those who like to learn stuff, whether its UFOs or NFL, are cool. Those who think they know everything, that's their business. Those who tell other people to shut up are more than wrong.

6. your links
I'll really be interested in the Jacques Vallee link. I believe I heard on the radio the other day that July 25 (coming up!) is the date that more UFOs are seen than any other.

It will be interesting to see what these patterns might mean.
