Breitbart-Fox can be our Rather-CBS if we play it right..... |
|
Yes, I know there is a big difference in the stories.
Dan Rather was telling a TRUE story, but using manufactured evidence.
Andrew Breitbart was telling a FALSE store, using manufactured evidence.
What I mean is... the right-wing in this country used Rather/CBS's fuckup to beat up the media during the election of 2004. Nothing CBS reported after that was taken seriously by the voting public. The CBS/Rather "brand" was irretrievably damaged.
We need to use this story against Fox/Breitbart in the same way the right-wing used the CBS/Rather story.
Beat the crap out of Fox News and right-wing media relentlessly over it. For the few non ditto-heads that still take Fox News seriously, this can be the tipping point to get them to ignore anything that comes from that channel.
Fox's brand will never be damaged among the 33% of America that permanently has its head up its collective ass (teabaggers), but for those "independents" that think that Fox News is actually a "news" station, maybe this will help wake them up.
.... if we play it right.

I like the way you think, SD - hope you've got somebody in the WH on speed dial.

10. They should already be a laughing stock |
|
They get basic elements of stories wrong and their on-screen graphics are a joke. They either purposely spread misinformation or the reporters and/or producers are so incompetent that they shouldn't be trusted, before any of the current situations with the edited video. This time, however, it seems that other news outlets are picking up on this. This time, they won't be able to say its just MSNBC picking on them. Of course, they will anyway.

D. Rather's evidence WAS 'manufactured'... just that the naysayers 'evidence', as well as their 'outrage', indeed was completely so

5. If independents don't know Faux lies by now |
|
Then they ain't too bright to begin with. This will blow over, and Faux viewers will still believe what they saw. They haven't stopped watching even though ACORN was vindicated, or that the Black Panther story is a lie. This is nothing different. They know the "real story" so they think.

11. Far more publicity about this lie. |
|
In fact ... if CNN is smart, they'll revive the ACORN and the Black Panther Stories, the terrorst fist bump, the Obama went to a Madrassa stories ... build an entire couple days around how Fox News lies repeatedly.

14. No, just focus on THIS story. |
|
Don't dredge up ACORN or the Black Panther stuff, white independent voters won't be as receptive to those stories. This story - with a sympathetic black woman at the center and old white people defending her (!) has all the ingredients to change white voters' minds about Fox News.

17. Our own Agriculture department took the Fox story seriously |
|
That would suggest that though independents might give Fox little credit, they do listen and things have a way of coloring people's opinions.

6. This reminds me of how the White House went after Faux last year because they didn't want them |
|
treated like a real news channel. They thought that Faux gins up phony, fake & disgusting controversies and then the rest of the media follows along after them thereby making them "real" controversies being discussed by all of the press. The problem was that the stupid effing media (Jake Tapper - I'm looking at you) stood up and defended Faux and went after the Administration for being "big ole' meanies" to Faux.
Exactly what the WH was worried was going to happen - the media following Faux's lead - is what has been happening.
Now would be the time for the WH to revive that fight AND the entire Democratic Party & Liberal Blogosphere needs to do the same thing - instead of focusing on attacking the President much of the time.
I think we need to ask all the WH reporters and members of the WH Correspondents Association if they are still going to give Helen's front row seat to Faux News now - treating them like they are the same as the rest of the front seaters.

9. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. |

Your scenario would be ideal, so I doubt we'll get that lucky. But it does have the potential to blow back on Breitbart and Fox to some degree, for sure. We'll see.

15. Rather makes one fuck-up in his 50+ year career, gets canned . BrietFart makes 3 fuckups in 6 months |
|
and he's the golden boy of the media and the blogosphere.
The "liberal media" need to go after this asshole (and Glenn Beck too) just like they did with Mark Williams. We shouldn't tolerate BrietFarts libel any more than we tolerated Williams' racism.

16. Add to the differences - that Rather had no knowledge that the info was fabricated |
|
He actually did get secondary confirmation from the secretary saying that the information was consistent with her memory. In addition, an official involved also tentatively backed it.
Breitbart knew his was false - because he created it.
I agree that this could be a golden opportunity to address this.
