Ben Stein is a dick

The people who have been laid off and cannot find work are generally people with poor work habits and poor personalities. I say “generally” because there are exceptions. But in general, as I survey the ranks of those who are unemployed, I see people who have overbearing and unpleasant personalities and/or who do not know how to do a day’s work. They are people who create either little utility or negative utility on the job. Again, there are powerful exceptions and I know some, but when employers are looking to lay off, they lay off the least productive or the most negative. To assure that a worker is not one of them, he should learn how to work and how to get along -- not always easy.

This is SOOOOOO not the case where I work. Stein wouldn't know real work if it hit him in the face. Repeatedly. Until blood and snot and torn flesh mixed together to look like a nasty porridge, and it attracted a rabid pit bull who finished the job. Not that I'm suggesting that be done to him. Heaven forbid.

1. He's also an actor, an economist, a lawyer,
and give us a little time, and we could think up all kinds of other impressive-sounding things he could claim to be with little or no experience!!

No wonder Farris skipped.

6. Most dicks serve a useful purpose -- which is more than I can say for Ben Stein.
And I realize we also have a DICK Cheenee -- but at least he's a good testing ground for new circulatory system plumbing supplies and electronics.

7. Sure Ben
Ben,
I'm sure you've done an extensive survey of the "ranks".

During that supposed survey, how did you determine that they do not know how to do a day's work?

If (big if) they are unpleasant do you think it might be because they're out of work, stressed, and scared?

So you believe that someone who's been laid off was the least productive or most negative? Have you ever considered the possibility that that same unfair assumption, made by potential employers, is the reason they can't find work?

Ben, Valerief is right. You are a dick.

I take that back. It's unfair to dicks.

9. I was VERY unpleasant during the 10 months my boss didn't pay me
And then even more unpleasant when he didn't pay me after I dissolved my contract.

Guess I should have thanked my boss for being a deadbeat piece of shit, eh Ben?

10. No he is a very nice man. He just lives in a separate reality.
I have recorded several commercials with him and he is a delight. Just like Lance LaGaugh(sp) stay the hell away from politics.

Bush II, for example.

14. He may be very pleasant in person,
but his public statements are anything but nice. Good social skills do not necessarily make a nice person.

16. He probably is. You don't get to be that successful without having some people skills.
Nonetheless, in evaluating the character of anyone, there is a balance of scales that comes into play, and for him to publicly make this claim is to WAY overcompensate in the other direction from 'a very nice man'.

"I see people who have overbearing and unpleasant personalities and/or who do not know how to do a day’s work."

That sentence also describes perfectly to the last two managers I had. (One of 'em finally got let go when his boss finally got the boot and wasn't around to protect him any more. The other one is still here but has been demoted, praise Jebus.)

Edited to add: At my previous place of employment, when layoffs came a lot of the managers, including mine, used them as an excuse to get rid of people they didn't like. (I quit about 4 months later because I found a better job that paid more.) More than a few completely incompetent people survived the layoffs because they were kissing the right asses, not because their continued employment was helpful to the company.

At the time I didn't know what an ass-clown he really was. If I had known I would have shunned him.
