FOX News and the MSM did not fire Sherrod.....the Administration did!!!
I hate Fox News. I hate a lot of the MSM. But the great thing about them is that they do not hire and fire people that work for this administration.

This administration is the only person responsible for this firing. The MSM, and especially Fox News will always SUCK. And there is nothing we can do about that issue.

What we need is people spending more than 2 damn hours investigating things before they start reacting.

Hell, I have fired people before, for very low level positions, and I know we spend a lot more time discussing it than the Administration did on Sherrod.

79. I have read and written several "that that" sentences,
but I think this is the first time I have read a "was was" sentence.

"Unless your OP about not knowing who Sherrod was was actually just a lie?"

34. Office of the President has its own sources of information & intelligence, which are far
better than anything the public gets through the mainstream media.

The idea that the president's team is dependent on whatever info comes to them through the msm (esp fox), & makes decisions based solely on it, is silly.

64. The Naacp's "opinion," per their own statement, was apparently based on fox news reports
without any independent review of the story:

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, NAACP CEO Ben Jealous said that the organization had been "snookered" by conservative media:

"With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party Activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias.

Having reviewed the full tape, spoken to Ms. Sherrod, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20100720/pl_yblog_upshot/naacp-retracts-criticism-of-resigned-usda-official

they didn't review tapes or check with the farmers, they just offered a useless "opinion" based on fox news reports? uh-huh, sure.

so such "opinion" is no different from just listening to fox.

i don't believe the naacp actually operates that way, nor do i believe the white house does.

it's a cover story to take the heat off the wh & deflect it to the naacp.

does or did.

nor do i believe that the naacp is so easily "snookered" as this statement would indicate, since its implication is that the naacp relied totally on fox news reports:

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, NAACP CEO Ben Jealous said that the organization had been "snookered" by conservative media:

"With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party Activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias.

They gave their opinion to the WH based on fox news reports, & only later reviewed tapes & contacted the white farmers?

sure, that sounds credible.

13. I sure didn't see evidence of any strength or resolve
According to Sherrod Brown's report, she was getting pressure to quit because the story was going to be on Glenn Beck's show that night. Now, a strong administration would shrug and say, "Who gives a flying fuck what Glenn Beck has to say?" But the Obama administration was scared enough about it that they really put the screws to Brown to quit. I don't know if that's "weak," but I sure as shit wouldn't characterize it as "strong."

50. Ah, so Teddy Roosevelt welcomed flame-stoking, eh?
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

they have to work harder to prove they are not racist (because of all the tea bagger shit lately). It's the same thing as they say about women and other minorities having to WORK twice as hard to prove they are equal to everyone else. I think they are being hyper sensitive to all the racist criticism and were caught off guard on this.

The speech was at the NAACP, they had to have the video and transcript. One call, one file transfer, one reading/viewing. Done, rebuttal. That's even without hearing Sherrod's side.

They jumped because they don't want to make this administration about race. Good idea, but then that makes them extra vulnerable in that area to manipulators like Rove and Breitbart. Hence they will continually be race baiting this admin, it's win-win for them. If Obama does the research and defends Van Jones or Sherrod, he's accused of "favoring" blacks, IOW a racist. Just a "coincidence" that blacks are the ones being attacked.

Solution: all of his administration should know what they are doing and
NOT TAKE THE BAIT

edit: and use these attacks to point out how the far right lies. (ignoring race and turning the issue to all about far right lies. Best part, by defining the far right he can still be chums with the moderate right, should they ever resurface)

65. If they were "caught off guard", then the "other side" is much better at chess.
Yes, we all knew they would have to work harder.... and if Obama didn't understand that, he had no business running the race.

THAT does NOT excuse this.

Never.

70. I don't know if they are better at chess, but we all know they are better at sleaze. How could
the administration know of EVERY tactic they will try, every person they will attack? I agree they should have waited and not taken the word of "the other side" but I cannot see how they could/should know every move they will make.

They are super sensitive to exactly this, no wonder it's where they made an error.

It's not that big an error anyway, they fixed it already.

72. EVERYBODY makes mistakes
How you respond to them is what counts. The administration owned up to its error, apologized and offered to make things right.

Breitbart, on the other hand... not so much...

It may never have made it to Obama, if that's who you mean by "this administration".

Whose side is Obama on?

Does she serve at the pleasure of the President, or Vilsuck?

77. After this fiasco.. I think I know where our public Option went....
It went the same place as the re-newal of Glass-Steegal and the Jobs Bill and the end of war in Afghanistan.

I hope we can hold on to our Social Security a little longer....

81. Sherrod: the only official ever fired because of the fear that Glenn Beck might go after her
Sherrod may be the only official ever dismissed because of the fear that Fox host Glenn Beck might go after her. As Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack tried to pressure her into resigning, Sherrod says Deputy Under Secretary Cheryl Cook called her Monday to say "do it, because you're going to be on 'Glenn Beck' tonight."

83. Shame to have to point out the obvious.
Thread after thread of celebrating lawsuits against Breitbart and FNC when it would have been more prudent and mature to quietly investigate fully before jumping to conclusions. If the administration hadn't panicked and been so easily manipulated none of this would be happening.

84. Yep
Fox does what Fox does, that is never going to change. But they way the Obama administration reacts to this is what was the problem. Complete cowardice.
