Shepherd Smith: The only honest journo on Fox smacks down Breitbart
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/07/the_lone_holdout.php#more

Regarding Andrew Breitbart and his crap site Biggovernment.com and its smear on Ms. Sherrod:

We on Studio B did not run the video and did not reference the story in any way for many reasons, among them: we didn't know who shot it, we didn't know when it was shot, we didn't know the context of the statement, and because of the history of the videos on the site where it was posted. In short, we did not and do not trust the source.

2. What would really be a miracle
is if any other mainstream media outlet reports on what Shep just said.

14. Here's my theory on that.
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 05:14 PM by Sebastian Doyle
Most of the FAUX "newscasters" are women who look as though their previous employer was Hugh Hefner. That keeps the straight right wing males watching. And the teabagging women think Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly are role models of what a "real man" should be.

Shep keeps the "Log Cabin Republicans" tuned in. Of course the hazard there (from Murdoch & Ailes perspective) is that Shep doesn't stay on script as often as the news centerfolds do.

He's more than sane, he's right.

4. In other words.. We just slap up whatever crap RW bloggers send us..
and broadcast it to millions of people who trust ONLY us.

Hannity and the other Faux liars, minus Shep I guess, support Breitbart 100%. Their record proves it.

6. If it was only Fox, no big deal. But, the tradmed
plays ball with Breitbart too.

12. Faux is a different animal, they created this "story" using RW provided fake video.
The "me too" nature of cable news is a different problem, but equally as serious.

16. Fox News is always going to be Fox News.
But, their audience is is a hermetically sealed idiot chamber.

It's when the other outlets--who do know better--run with Fox's nonsense that they look stupid.

Even Jon Stewart got suckered by Breitbart on ACORN.

5. OMG! Another reason to love Shep
I fell for Shep during Katrina. We'd evacuated and were glued to the TV because his reporting from NOLA was best, even though it was Fox.

CNN's Anderson Cooper show has been best on the BP spill coverage.

8. Possibly the only "fair and balanced" journalist? ...
Hard to say. I occasionally watch him and at times he has seemed fair, but I don't watch him enough to form an opinion.

Most times I've watched he has been background noise while I was on DU. I like to keep up on breaking news and the occasional car chase. I usually watch CNN's Rick Sanchez in that time frame.

One can only hope that (at least once in a while) he gets through to them.

17. Good judgment on Shep's part
I like the man, and can't for the life of me see why he stays there. His Katrina reporting was the best out there.

The selfish side of me would like him at MSNBC (as that is the network I prefer to support), but I can see the value of him getting his point across to the Faux nutcases out there.

21. Smith is the only honest journalist at Faux news
During the NOLA crisis O'Reilly was desparately trying to get him to go down a right-wing tslking point (if I remember correcrly that the people there were just too dumb to get out and leave) and I thought Smith was going to blow. He looked and sounded like he wanted to tear O'Reilly a new ---hole. He was visibly struck and shaken by what he was seeing on the ground and wasn't about to let America's Papa coopt him into the daily blather. I too don't know how he stays on there - as for why, try $5MM a year contract.

24. That's the closest to a mea culpa you'll get from anyone at Fox.
It doesn't surprise me that it was Shep Smith.

28. Not a mea culpa, more like an
"I'm with Stupid" t-shirt. He must have to shower three times a day.
