After 18 months being laid off.. I was called by the owner, he wants me back.... :-)

Words can't explain the feeling. I am actually dumbfounded and in shock. Not that I don't deserve it, I worked very hard and did my best while I worked for him. He talked very highly of my work and would not pay me less than what I had been making, but also he wanted me to be satisfied also. :) After the call... I walked up to my wife and hugged her and both of us had tears in our eyes.

Just wanted to shout it out to the world... and the D.U. is as close as it comes for me.

For the first time in my life I haven't been able to find adequate work. I was starting to wonder about what I could offer to an employer.

I wish you well...and as I told my Father in Law who was concerned about my unemployment running out... "Every life one lives will have points of uncertainty. But one thing that is for certain is that a door will appear when needed. It has happened in my parents lives and my own. So I told him not to worry, something will happen I was certain of it. This was two weeks ago. It was quite a call to him to inform him that indeed something did happen and I got called back to work. Be luck or coincidence, I am not sure.... but it's what I call Faith.

Not in a Supreme Being...but Faith in myself that if I always work hard and do my best at whatever I do... things will always work out.

This companies clientele are in the top 1% in income in the U.S.

When I got laid off ... the owner told me sales had dropped over 50% in about two months. I was in the 2nd wave of layoffs. He said ... these people are still very rich. But in the last year (2008) their net worth had dropped almost in half... so if they were worth $10 million .. they were now worth about $5 million. Still very wealthy but it made them think about where they were spending their money and a $10,000 buffet MAYBE isn't such a good idea.

Anyway.. I hope it is a good sign things are going to pick up in all sectors.

We hear about so much injustice in the workplace that it's good to hear that the nice guy doesn't always finish last.

The same thing happened to my wife a few years ago. She was let go by a large retailer as were many other long time loyal employees. They eventually realized their mistake and hired back my wife and some of the others who were let go. However, they are paying her and the others less than when they were let go and some of them lost their benefits also.

They are however paying millions of dollars to the current and some former CEO's of the company that screwed things up in the first place.

I'm curious why not? I've worked for companies that took across-the-board pay cuts rather than do layoffs, and it seems to be the way they do things in Europe, at least when they can. What was his objection to offering you a pay cut?

As with any company, there are politics involved in all decisions. This is a non union shop and the owner did what he had to do to keep the doors open. I don't agree with all of his decisions but... he is the boss. He once told the remaining employees in a company meeting that he had to sell a couple of his BMWs and he actually had had cut his own pay by 50%. I guess he even had tears telling of his woes. This company was on the brink of closing and he had just spent 3 million on a new facility just before the crash.
