6. Now he needs to talk to the country about what happened |
|
He really shouldn't let this chance go by, even as an aside in another speech about the financial reform bill.
I hope he told Ms. Sherrod to get a lawyer and sue. In fact, I hope he recommended one.

11. I'd like to see that. That's the only way to really get it out in the open (Obama |
|
talking to the country.)
I also hope he shreds Breitbart and Fox, and others of their ilk, but that's probably hoping for too much. As Eugene Robinson said yesterday, when a bully pushes you, you push back. I'd like to see us push back.

|
We know they didn't come to Obama and say "this lady who works for someplace said something racist..." and he said "well you better make her resign!"
I know the buck stops with the President, but there is no way he is the one who made the call on this. He should just be honest about it.

|
Mrs. Sherrod is one of millions of black women and men who have been unfairly fired in this country. If the President could discuss that aspect to Americans who are open to hearing it, I'd welcome it. But something tells me most people won't want to hear it, so why bother?

20. Well, I'm sure he sees his responsibility here. He is the Chief Executive |
|
and Vilsack works for him. So in that sense Obama has to make sure he is satisfied with the answers he is getting on the substance of this affair. I do not believe he was involved in the firing but Obama knows where the buck stops...

It's not just Obama by any stretch. The Democrats don't lead in the media. They leave the field to the Breitbarts and as we have seen, the casualties are piling up.
We can't very well continue to complain about the right wing media if the Democrats refuse to even show up to the game. I don't want Obama to come and see me in the hospital. I want him and the Democrats to get drunk drivers off the road.

17. Yep, it is already happening... |
|
The demand that Vilsack and the Administration publicly apologize, done. The demand Ms. Sherrod be re-instated, offered her job back, done. The demand the President speak to Ms. Sherrod himself, done.
Now the demand is the President must speak to the American public about this is the cry.
If he were to do so, the meme 'he does pretty speeches' would begin immediately.
Same old, same old.

|
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 12:38 PM by TwilightGardener
when he does the right thing--takes away their excuse to hurl every insult they can think of at him. Oh well. And demanding that he speak to the public--about WHAT? Be careful to get the full facts before you terminate someone's employment? Is that a national crisis that needs to be addressed so America can move on? No, what it's really about is wanting to make sure this stays in the news so that Obama can keep getting whacked over the head for what amounts to one government employee's wrongful termination. Make him grovel, public mea culpas...I'm sure the RW would love to keep this going, too.

44. Now that response is truly pathetic... |
|
...it absolutely mirrors the stupid adulation that GWB's followers heaped upon him, and the vitriol spewed at anyone who would dare question Our Great Leader.
I have a lot of respect for President Obama; however, he has some definite failings, and you bet I feel free to call them out. Not because I think I could do a better job; I do not think that at all. But because I have certain expectations. Among those expectations is that anyone in the office of the President of the United States should know how to play hardball with the political opposition. Unfortunately I don't see much of that.
So, not to put too fine a point on it, you can take your rewrite and stuff it where the sun don't shine.
