Scott Burns (R) for US Attorney Post in Utah?
The Salt Lake Tribune article implies that it is likely that Scott Burns (R) may be the choice of the Obama Administration:

Burns declined comment Wednesday, referring calls to the Justice Department, which also would not comment.

But Todd Taylor, executive director of the Utah Democratic Party, sure had something to say.

“Scott Burns is a lousy, horrible choice,” he said. “This is a guy who went through two very divisive statewide races and lost both of them . He does not enjoy the confidence of the people of Utah. When a Republican can lose a statewide race twice, this is someone who is clearly not acceptable.”

Taylor said he has spoken with several people who have been contacted as part of Burns’ vetting process, (my boldface) and he cannot figure out why the Democratic administration would be considering a Republican to be the state’s top federal prosecutor.

The article goes on to mention a Democrat, David Schwendiman, who apparently could have suitably filled the position of US Attorney. However, his potential nomination is not going forward. David Schwendiman was Bosnia’s Deputy Chief Prosecutor and prosecuted war crimes.

Bosnia’s former Deputy Chief Prosecutor speaks about the problems and pressures he encountered during his term of office.

At the end of last year, the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina discontinued two investigations for war crimes committed against the Bosnian Serbs in Tuzla and Konjic.

That decision was made by David Schwendiman, then chief of the Special Department for War Crimes with the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the week that he left the institution.

One month on, Schwendiman says he did not make this controversial decision “with an intent to provoke a response from the Serbian authorities or representatives of Serbian groups.

One wonders if his potential nomination was undermined by the fact that he has been involved in prosecuting war crimes - something which the Obama Administration has no desire to consider.
