"The National Hurricane Center on Thursday officially upgraded a tropical disturbance near the Bahamas to a tropical depression.
If upgraded to Tropical Storm Bonnie, it will be the second named storm of the season.
As of the center's 2 p.m. advisory, the storm is located about 250 miles southeast of Nassau and about 400 miles east-southeast of Key Largo. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour.
The disturbance's present movement is west-northwest at 15 miles per hour.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the central-northwestern Bahamas and the east coast of Florida from Golden Beach south through the Keys, and on the west coast north to Bonita Springs.
Tropical storm watches have been issued from Golden Beach north to Jupiter Beach and Lake Okeechobee.
If the depression continues its current west-northwest path, it could bring strong winds and heavy rain to South Florida by early Friday morning. Computer models forecast it crossing anywhere from Cuba to Central Florida."
