the New BBC News website is horrible
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 01:39 AM by JI7
i don't know what they did to it but it's not as easy to read. the organization of it just sucks.

the old site was a lot better.

for anyone familiar with it, what do you think ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/

here is an article on it :

<BBC News website editor Steve Herrmann said the new-look site will not revert to its previous design, despite complaints of it being "fussy" and "chaotic".

Thousands of people have responded to Mr Herrmann's updates on the BBC's Editors blog explaining the revamped site - and he acknowledged most comments have been "critical".

But the BBC boss said going back to the old design was not something that was being considered.

The BBC billed the new design as being "clean" with "more space for the main stories of the day", with better navigation and making it easier to see which stories are the most recent. >

2. BBC is seeking stability with their website, so they hired
Seymore Schitz, the designer of the original 1995 Free Republic website that is still in use today.

4. OK, I checked it out. Looks alright to me.
I didn't not see any flash ads. I had no problem getting around, seeing what I wanted to see.

8. now that you mention it, yeah
I usually check CNN and then BBC in the morning, and lately I have trouble telling if I've actually moved from the CNN site to the BBC site- I have to double-check.

7. Text begins at the left margin of the page -- no border. It sucks.
Fewer links to related items, especially non-BBC links. Yeah, it sucks.

Managers and consultants get paid to change things, not to leave well enough alone.
