Warren G. Harding also "looked like a President"
He was nominated by a smoke-filled ship of fools who thought he'd be as good a nominee as anyone because of this opinion. I fear we are going down the same road with Romney (although I don't think he'll get the nomination, but anything can happen). See how well that turned out! Harding was the worst we ever had until the current abomination.

2. "He"s electable"
is what many repubs told me W's primary qualification was. It's endlessly funny to remind these same people of that these days.

3. Why do you think these people are constantly suckered by actors?

(Ironic considering their Hollywood stance :eyes:)

They're all about flash over substance, style over thought. It's why Bush's staged photo-ops work so well with these Republican fools. They love a good show.

5. Hagel looks more like a "president" than romney
He is also a more attractive man. He has the mature look, and is good looking in a rugged way. Romeny reminds you of a sneaky snake oil guy. Just waiting to "con" you out of anything he can.

7. True--Hagel's got that distinguished-silver thing going on, which
combined with the gravelly voice will be enough for about a third of the general public. Romney is so plastic, it's hard to imagine people taking him seriously, but his looks will also be enough for a third of the voting public, sadly.

8. I think he WILL get the nom, especially since he's holding fast
to his abortion flip-flop while Rudy abandoned his and went back to his pro-choice position. Just too much out of central casting, too rich, one pretty wife--that's what the GOPers worship--they'll live with the Mormonism, I predict. Mittens strikes me as ruthless--he won't give up until he wins.

9. But Warren G Harding did win the presidency
Today, TV is the Medium where majority of Americans get
their news and information.

Sad but true majority of Americans reading level is very low.

TV elects the president, essentially.

Republicans use their heads and not their hearts. Right now
the top 3 "look like Presidents, they are still mulling over
bringing Thompson into the race. Looing for candidates who
can seal the deal.

Sure you hear some squabbling out of the RR. When it is down
to crunch, the party will find some way "to mollify" them and
go with whom they perceive as a winner. Notice how their
second tier candidates do Not grab the TV Camera.

10. …and Harding was a very popular president, too.
The dirt (Teapot Dome) came out after he died in office. He was another "useful idiot" whose underlings were totally corrupt. Of course, Harding himself had sexual trysts in the White House coat closet, and even though Prohibition was in force there was no shortage of alcohol in the Harding White House.

14. I also remember reading about a vote based on eyebrows
A woman didn't vote for Nixon because she didn't like his eyebrows, especially the left one (I believe it was the left one). I wish I could remember where I read that. There were myriad reasons not to have voted for Nixon, but eyebrows should have been the very last reason!

12. romney would be selling shoes or used cars if he wasn't the son
of old george romney. This bullshit stuff about him being a big success is very misleading.

13. Albert Fall...The Karl Rove Of the Era
He was best known for being the convicted Interior Secretary responsible for Tea Pot Dome (always oil, isn't it???)...but he was Harding's guru...the one who got the votes in the infamous "Smoke-filled Room" in 1920. Harding was his stalking horse and they used the media of the time...newspapers, magazines and movies to win in surface, not substance...the Repugnican model ever since.

I'm thinking that Romney will rise above Rudy & McCain as he's the most slimy and ruthless of the bunch. He has that Nixonian look of arrogance and contempt mixed with the boooshie wealth and entitlement...a true GOOP Brahmin who doesn't give a shit about anything but his own image and the power it attracts.

Harding was a piker compared to this regime. We're still too far in the forest to see all the debris, but I am certain that once the books are written on the "boooosh legacy", it will set a new low for competency and a standard for corruption we still can't fathom.
