1. Useful idiots

In my lifetime, the Democrats have gone from being the party of progress to being useful idiots. Carter never got enough momentum going to recover from Vietnam and Watergate, but at least he didn't carry out Republican wish lists. Clinton was the first truly useful idiot the Repubs had working for them. He raised taxes enough to balance the budget (something the Repubs had painted themselves into a corner on), giving them some breathing room so they could enact Dubya's tax cuts. He also gutted welfare, flubbed health care reform, and pushed NAFTA, all things that the rich business interests had on their wish list.

Now what's on the rich&powerful wish list? Keep the war machine running in oil producing regions? Check. Backstop Wall Street with public money while they continue to gamble with derivatives? Check. Expand the number of people that have to participate in the scam known as "health insurance"? Check. If he was any more useful, Obama's government would be helping to hide the true amount of environmental damage in the Gulf. Check again.

2. Plus expand the spy apparatus and keep the torture

One could go on and on, but that would not be too useful, would it?
