1. it is certainly a crime of intolerance

but like all "hate" crimes it's caused by mental illness, temporal or permanent, coupled with some kind of perceived assault on identity.

I wonder if that kid earnestly believes that a white dude would beat him up for listening to classical music. :shrug:

2. Isn't the point of "hate crime" v. regular crime that it instills fear in not only the victim

but an entire segment of the population based on an arbitrary criteria?

Or is it just if you hate someone and then hurt them? Because under that rule, most crimes could be considered hate crimes.
