Can you guess what this is?

This is for guesses only -- if you really know what it is, no fair.

If nobody gets it, I'll post the answer in a later post. Have fun! B-)

14. Nope.
And it's not fair if you know. The first computers were much larger than that. Mechanical flip-flops, then vacuum tubes, then magnetic core. Now don't give it away.

25. Well, it looks like it says IBM at the upper right of the thing.
It also looks too big for the door it's going in.

That's a good one.

But with the cylinder in the middle, I'm guessing hard drive / storage system.

29. Looks like an old style hard drive.

Sometimes those huge disk platters wouldn't be perfectly balanced. They've been known to vibrate themselves across the floor before. Can't imagine that would have been too good for the data integrity though!

33. It's the first.
In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored 5MB of data.

43. One of my friends was the first to get a hard drive for his Apple II.
It was 5 MB, cost $5000, and was bigger than a shoe box. The salesman said, "You'll never need another disk." Heh heh.
