OMG!!! Chelsea's wedding could cost $20 MILLION! |
|
Or $50 MILLION!
Or a BILLION!
Has anyone else noticed that the estimates of no-nothings keep going UP????
And the Clintons are completely boxed in because the only way to prove they spent substantially less than any of the estimates is to show their actual costs -- which are still probably ten times as high as the so-called "average" wedding these days. (Which is maybe somewhere in the 20 thousands, if you believe the bridal industry -- which has a vested interest in promoting the idea of high cost weddings.)

to get on their soapbox. If I was Chelsea, I'd be incredibly pissed because it should be the best day of her life and the media are doing everything in their power to ruin it-under the guise of calling it "the wedding of the century (blah blah blah). She never asked for this. I hope she's ignoring it.

>At some point, inequality and egregious use of wealth needs to be called out for what it is.<
Right. And I suppose we should fire up the grill for hamburgers and hot dogs for all, too. Don't forget the keg!
It's frankly none of your business what anyone does with their money, especially when hosting what is essentially a state occasion on their dime.
The security alone will cost a fortune. Then again, I'm sure it would be just fine to have no security at all, seeing as how there's never, ever been any threats against the Clintons, or anyone else that might be attending the festivities. Wouldn't want to show an "egregious use of wealth", or make sure those attending are comfortable enough to enjoy a wedding.

Well, it's frankly none of YOUR business what I choose to discuss either. This is a discussion board.
I am discussing egalitarianism and conspicuous displays of wealth and this is EXACTLY te correct place to do so.
There is a class war going on.
America is a highly UN-egalitarian society and I am discussing that. If you don't like it, too bad.

What do you propose is an appropriate amount of money to spend on an occasion hosting numerous local and international diplomats and political figures? This is also a reflection on our country; it's being hosted by the Secretary of State and a past President.
If you find the amount so repugnant, what do you believe the celebration should cost?

I would say that $250,000 would be plenty. That is the cost of a house.
Now my question: What would be TOO much for you? Is there no limit? Is no amount too indecent? How about $500 million. Would THAT ne excessive? It would pay a lot of florists according to you logic...
How about 5 Billion? Would that be okay?

Evidently, you haven't ever planned a wedding, let alone a wedding hosting 500 guests. And, truthfully, it's not my business how much they spend if they're doing it out of their own pocket.
It's interesting how you equate wealth = moral failing.

And get nothing but agreement and outrage and not one person would question the "truthiness".
You could randomly mass email it, and probably more than half the recipients would believe it without question and forward it to everyone on their address book.
You could post it here and get a bunch of un-recs from people who don't read past the subject.
