When I imagine the GOP taking congress, and/or the White House ...
... these are some of the things I see ...

  • President Palin appointing Michelle Bachmann to the Supreme Court.
  • Vice President, Tony Hayworth.
  • White Hose spokesperson, Andrew Breitbart
  • White House speech writer, Tim LaHaye
  • Attorney General, Glen Beck
  • White House Cheif of Staff, Sean Hannity
  • Mandatory school prayer
  • Mandatory gun ownership
  • Reagan's face on the dollar bill
  • War with Iran, North Korea, and Mexico.
  • An oil rig on the dunes at Kitty Hawk, NC
  • The free market deciding if businesses that discriminate based on race survive or not.
  • Any sex act not performed by one man and one woman in the missionary position banned.
  • The privatization of police and fire stations
  • Public schools shut down, and then refitted to become for profit prisons.
  • Identification chips implanted at birth ... no before birth ... shortly after conception.
  • Department of Energy replaced with Department of Oil
  • Department of Education ... Renamed Department of Home Schooling
  • Department of Mental Health and De-liberalization created (mental health screenings, mandatory)

When others imagine the GOP back in power ... what do you see??

The whole notion terrifies me.

9. The GOP won't define itself ... and is unwilling to declare its agenda ...
And I just saw the video in which the Dems start to declare it for them ... and that, plus a brief discussion I had with some one in another post got me thinking about various GOP futures.

And so I imagined, "what if" the GOP took the majority and the White House ... AND "what if" it was the Tea Party nuts who were in control.

I'm hoping to see other "futures" in which various GOP players get their way.

3. Out with a whimper or a bang? Personally, I'd prefer the bang if only for the entertainment
value.

Seriously - some (e.g., personnel appointments) of what you "predict" is crazy (not to say it couldn't happen). But the policy decisions that the GOP would make (with full Democratic consent) are not different from some of the actions that "commie Obama and Nazis in Democrat Congress" are doing. I just cannot figure out why the reich-wingers are so upset. They are getting what they want, even if they do not know it.

They are just plain stupid and ignorant, I guess.

5. While some of the things in my list are intentionally silly ... some are not.
For example ... the GOP would end the Department of Education.

Imagine who they'd put in as our UN ambassador ... we stopped Bush from privatizing Social Security, would we be able to stop a President Romney?

You know they'd kill Medicare if the opportunity presented itself. Pass a marriage amendment?

Deport every illegal immigrant, bust up their families ...

4. So, when Republicans get elected
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 10:29 AM by OnyxCollie
they get an extreme conservative government. When Democrats took over the WH, and the House and Senate, did we get an extreme liberal government?

No. We got a middling, centrist government that diminishes any enthusiasm.

Middle of the road is not the answer. Go all in or go home.

Edit to add: If you need to rely on scare tactics to get reelected, you aren't doing it right.

6. Yes, because we want to be exactly like Bush and Palin on the other side of the coin.
Think about that for a minute.

8. Right.
Because Howard Dean is the liberal version of Michelle Bachman.

Because Thom Hartmann is the liberal version of Sean Hannity.

Because Noam Chomsky is the liberal version of Glenn Beck.

Everything's black and white in your little world, isn't it Wraith?

7. That's not the discussion I'm looking for ... and so if you are looking for that fight ...
... there are plenty of posts where you can go and have fight it out.

Notice I don't mention the Dems in my post. I don't want to talk about them. I don't want to argue about how weak and pathetic they are, blah, blah, blah ...

I am curious, actually curious, about what people on DU think the shape of a GOP congress and White House would take. I kicked off the game. I invite you to play ... pick your favorite imagined Republican president ... their cabinet ... their supreme court picks ... feel free to put in silly things that would never happen but which take their positions to a potential end point ... list actual things that you think they'd do.

But .. I won't be engaging the debate around how pathetic the dems are. If I wanted to, there are at least 10 other posts where that's underway right now that I could jump into.

11. I have a friend who says New Zealand is pretty good.
And most of the Tea Party dopes would be unable to find it on a map, which makes it less likely they'd invade it any time soon.

13. I hope you are right ...
Over the last 30 years ... accelerating in the last 8 ... the GOP has gone insane.

Over the years I could see some one from the GOP on TV and maybe agree with some point they made, or even if I did not agree with them, understand the logic path they were on.

But they've gone totally nuts ... now, anytime I see a GOP member on TV, or some GOP pundit talking, my only conclusion is they are crazy, and potentially sociopathic.
