ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS
It's official.
The State and Church are ONE.snip
Unfortunately, the individual operating the industrial lawnmower took great offense to having his photo taken, stopped the mower, took out his cell and made a call. I could never have imagined he was calling the police.
The oddest thing is - an officer showed up at my house within 5 minutes of that call. Unprecedented in this town - it usually takes 20 minutes screaming robbery.
So the officer proceeded to tell me "he needed to know what my problem was, as he knew the person using the equipment, that they were a nice person, would never try to offend anyone and
emphatically stated he knew the individual was a Christian... and also that the operator was fearful of a confrontation. Lastly, he he said he showed up to keep the peace"
The situation went downhill fast.
His statement coupled with his earnest and pointed emphasis caused me to burst out laughing. And for some reason he took great offense first to that and then even more to my reply...which in retrospect my not have been one of my better options...
"there are an awful lot of alter boys that could attest being Christian is not a guarantee of an individuals good character. But if HE is indeed a GOOD Christian, then why is he working on a Sunday, breaking one of the ten commandments, knowingly contravening the disrupting the peace bylaw and breaking a littering by-law, simultaneously? Not very thoughtful or righteous, is it?" He was not very amused.

Up until the G20, I was of the opinion there was a little too much concern/mention about the Christian Right and the Harpercrite's intention to combine church and state... So, being the stubborn dummy I am, it took a minor brush with one of his fellow Christian soldiers to open my eyes.
This experience does not mean I am supporting or promoting an "us" against "them" theme with the police. However, I do find it disturbing that a police officer would repeatedly use a "Chrsitian" attribute for ANY type of professional rationalization.
