A word about Charlie Crist |
|
He's a lifelong Repubican. He is not crazy, but he is conservative. He had a problem. He got beat at the primary level because being a conservative in THIS cycle is not enough.
Charlie is a "Hard Right" repubican who was beaten by an "Off The Chart Right" whackadoodle. He is an independent now because he couldn't out crazy they TRUE crazies. Nothing more than that. If he could have outcrazied them, he WOULD have and he would be vilified here. Rightly so. The fact is, he just couldn't pull it off even though he wanted to with his whole soul and being.
There are two Democrats in that Florida race. In case anyone missed that.
Just sayin'

1. Were I nuts enough to have decided to live in my dad's house in Florida |
|
you can bet I'd be voting for Meek. He's a good guy, a solid Democrat, AFAIK. Crist has support from both parties, but mostly from old retiree southern Democrats who tend to be very, very conservative.
He surprises people just often enough to have missed the pervasive stench of lockstep conservatism, an example being his veto of a ridiculously restrictive abortion law about a month or so ago.
However, you're right about where he spends most of his time, on the far right. Democrats in Florida need to realize this. If he gets in and caucuses with the Democrats (a long shot), he'll just be another Lieberman or Nelson.
Democrats would do well to try to keep him out.

3. Dontcha know that far right is alright, Stinky? It is the letter by the name that makes the man |
|
Principles, policies, and values don't mean shit. It really doesn't even matter what you stand for or what laws you try to institute, just that letter.
Plus, Charlie's politics are just the right flavor of "pragmatic progressive" for a lot of the more "sensible liberals" around these parts.
Sanders keeps depragmatizing "sweeping" reforms with ponies like audits and clinics, if Chuckles gets in there will be someone much more "pragmatic" than that fringer Bernie.

4. Its quite amazing that no one wants to talk about this |
|
Democrats supporting the Republican even before the Democratic primary is over.
Instead of discussing it, the thread gets unrecced.
Amazing.

5. IMO, it's another case of the goalposts moving. Crist isn't as |
|
bat shit crazy as Rubio and many other Rebubs, therefore he's becoming acceptable because he 'might' caucus with the Dems.
Yeah, that worked out so well when many in the party supported Lieberman over Lamont.
