ADL supports bigotry against Muslims.

"The nation's leading Jewish civil rights group is opposing the planned mosque and Islamic community center near ground zero.

The Anti-Defamation League says it condemns the bigotry expressed against the proponents of the mosque, but says a mosque at that site will cause more pain for some victims.

The ADL is known for its advocacy of religious freedom and interfaith harmony. Its position on the mosque was met with shock and condemnation by several groups.

The head of the liberal-leaning pro-Israel group J Street says the A-D-L is giving in to fear-mongerers. The Interfaith Alliance in Washington says it's disappointed in the A-D-L."

Wow, I had such respect for the ADL. What a bunch of crap. There are no extremists involved in the community center, and in fact they are building it in honor of the Muslims who died on 9/11. In my opinion, opposing a mosque in New York, is the same as opposing a catholic church in Oklahoma city because Mcveigh was Catholic. Muslims have the right to build whatever they want wherever they want, as long as they own the property and it fits in with building regulations. There is no argument against this mosque, unless you want to say moderate muslims are the same thing as extremists. And it seems thats what the ADL is doing, so I think they are bigoted in this stance. I don't know what the hell they are trying to do here as they are one of the world's most known anti bigotry organizations, and now they are engaging in bigotry. What is everyone's thoughts?

1. Absolutely, dear.
Just as the Mormons are free to build a temple on the site of the Mountain Meadows massacre. Or two blocks away from it.

There's bigotry...and then there is acute insensitivity and phenomenal bad taste.

2. Muslims died on 9/11 also.
And I'm not referring to the hyjackers. Many innocent muslims went to the world trade center on September 11th, 2001 and didn't return home. This mosque is not in any way supporting Al Quada or any other Islamic extremist or terrorist group. This mosque is being built by moderate muslims in honor of the victims of 9/11. How the hell is this in bad taste? Is it just because they are muslim?

7. "Is it just because they are Muslim"?????
Edited on Sat Jul-31-10 02:26 AM by aquart
NO, IT'S BECAUSE IT IS TWO BLOCKS FROM THE GROUND I USED AS MY MOST FREQUENT SUBWAY STOP.

They tell me it's the site of the Burlington Coat Factory. Which went broke because all it's inventory was covered in the dust of the dead? And the streets were blocked off for months? And then they went in and swooped up the property of formerly viable businesses to tell me HOW PEACEFUL AND LOVING THEY ARE?

Tell you what, let's go build a synagogue in Gaza. So the Palestinians can see how loving and peaceful the Jews are.

On edit: We'll put in a swimming pool and encourage all the neighborhood Gaza kids to attend.

9. So... it IS because they are Muslim?
That's what you're saying, in effect: "Muslims did this to us, so why should Muslims be allowed to build a community center there?"

The fact that this rests upon unfair generalizations about Muslims--effectively an attempt to make them collectively guilty for the conduct of al Qaeda--does not appear to bother you.

10. Ah, I get it now, it makes perfect sense. You don't want it near YOU
Your attitude on this doesn't surprise me in the least.

12. As usual, you assume and know nothing. Sorry.
But did I spend much of my youth between Warren and Murray? Oh, yeah. And I got some good buys in that Burlington Coat Factory.

But the arrogant attempt to create a permanent Muslim presence AT THAT SITE? And the sleazy way you and the Israel-bashers have white-washed it with nobility? No. Not buying and I don't want it.

But you never said if you're good with the synagogue in Gaza. That's a go?

11. Do you advocate banning churches near the sites of

abortion clinic bombings? Or near the sites where gay men and women were murdered at the hands of fundie Christians because "God hates fags"?

Just how large is this perimeter inside of which no Muslim community centers can be built?

You know what, let's just ban all Muslims from entering a 10-block radius around the WTC. The sight of those brown people is just too scary.

By the way, nice quote in your sig line: "every voice counts." Fits right in with what you're advocating right here. :sarcasm::rofl:

8. Thanks for buying into the Islamophobe propaganda
It's not a mosque, and it's not going to be at Ground Zero. But thanks for playing.

6. My thoughts are that all the bigots frothing in rage about a nonexistent mosque need to get over it
Possibly after learning the fact that the people in the neighborhood planning on building the not-a-mosque want to build the not-a-mosque in their own neighborhood, which is a situation the whitehoods nationwide should have precisely zero say in.

But no, people are comfortable enough with their attitudes about this that even people supposedly on the left don't see a problem with calling for ghettos where no Muslims or sufficiently-Muslim buildings are allowed.

And of course, anyone thinking there's a mosque being built at all, never mind a mosque being built on Groudn Zero, is far too stupid to be invited to any discussion about this anyway. It bugs me that people still buy that particular set of claims all over the place.
