Chrysler to add 900 jobs to midsize-car plant
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 02:31 PM by LuckyTheDog
If the tea partiers and their ilk had their way, this would not be happening. If they had their way, 1 million-plus folks who now work in the U.S. auto industry would have lost their jobs.

Real people would have been hurt badly. But the tea-baggers would have felt the warm glow of their ideological purity as America's greatness began to sink beneath the waves. So, we would have had that. :-)

DETROIT (AP) -- Chrysler Group LLC said Friday that it will add nearly 900 jobs at a factory in suburban Detroit and spare it from a planned closure. The decision is a show of optimism that consumers will embrace the company's refurbished midsize sedans.

The automaker made the announcement at another Detroit-area plant just before President Barack Obama spoke there about the success of the government-funded auto industry bailout.

2. In an interview Thursday, Obama boasted that all the US automakers were showing profits.
“We are going to get all that money back that we invested in the car companies,” he declared. The president claimed the industry had added 55,000 jobs since June 2009, the largest number in a decade.

He failed to note, however, that this was less than 10 percent of the 615,000 jobs the sector had lost in the preceding 18 months.

The few workers that are being hired—including 1,300 at the Chrysler Jeep plant—are being paid half the wages earned by auto workers just a few years ago.

They get a yearly income of $28,000—before taxes and hundreds of dollars in union dues are deducted—barely above the government’s poverty threshold for a family of four.

8. this is on the backs of the workers and the tax payer.
I want to see some real reform, like cutting executive pay by the same percentage.

9. Things are still pretty warm in Hell
So, I don't expect that to happen. In fact, it was never an option.
