For the first time in over 12 years we are a multi generational household |
|
We haven't had anybody living with us since Dec. of 97. Marta and I welcome our youngest daughter Beanie and grandson Jason into our home. Tonight is their first night here. Beanie is a progressive D too. :-)
After Marta and I got married, a few years later her mom moved in with us in a mother in law apartment in our house. It was great for the kids as well as us. Her mother stayed with us until she was to ill for us to care for her.

1. I would say I am sorry that things went this way for your daughter, |
|
and I am, but multi-generational households can be wonderful. Done with respect for all, it can be great to have youth and wisdom and help for all in the same room. This is one change in our culture that has not been for the better.
But of course, if they rip the heart out of Social Security, this will become much more common again.

3. My grandmother died when I was four years old but I remember her |
|
distinctly. She emigrated from County Cork, Ireland and would tell me stories with that beautiful Irish lilt of when she was a wee girl. This is so beneficial to all of you, enjoy...

4. Our grandmother lived with us |
|
and was a delightful presence in our growing-up years. These days our younger family members hardly know their grandparents. Independence is a good thing, but I wish we could have found a way to keep those comfortable family bonds.

5. Rec. Growing up in a three generation household was formative, wouldn't trade it for the world. |
|
And I think it's a more natural model of how children should be raised universally.
Grandparents helping to raise grandchildren while parents are out being productive (whether it's working or public service), children not left to strangers in day care.
In my case, it was one grandparent and one parent, (nonna rasing us, mom off at work), but the results were similar: we got the benefit of the wisdom of a kinder older woman and mom had the much needed help right there in the family.
Just my two cents.
Recommended.

7. I think the whole family benefits especially the grandchildren |
|
my nephews language skills and critical thinking skills are far above most children in his age group of (12).
I think it's fantastic!
