It's still better to live here than in places like let's say Somalia or Haiti, but we are heading in that direction if those Freeper, Tea Bag types don't wake up and smell the propaganda they are fed every day.

9. What does it say when we have to bring up places like Somalia in comparison so the U.S. |
|
is 'better'?
This mass-psychosis that pervades our society, the denial of what is before us, the constant and radical degradation of our lifestyles, principles, and liberty, is why the world looks at the American People and has to ask "WTF"?
Every day right here, we are told that this is "the way it is" and that "it is going to get worse" and we are supposed to shut up and accept their edicts. "Our" President and "our" Representatives openly declare that we are irrelevant, and we just accept it as we go through the motions of playing our part in our own dissolution.

A great quote from one of the greats.
Heads Up Dept: I found a hardcover 3x Carlin: An Orgy of George (his 3 books, plus some bonus stuff) at a B&N in Washington state - $12.98 in the discount section. A great find.
Priceless Memory Dept: I saw him at a small venue in '05 and went to the stage door to drop some 'zines for him...and he was standing just inside...and came out for a moment to say hello. He'd just been flamethrowing on stage for over an hour, but was really cool and appreciative.
His memoir "Last Words" (with Tony Hendra) is excellent.

as we frogs swim around in water that is slowly brought to a boil is capsuled fantastically by this Carlin vid. This bit has become more and more true as time passes. It's like our evil corporate overlords are following George's script. It's George's "How to Serve Man" moment.
I post this link in my posts every couple of weeks. This message has to get out there.

43. So you don't see the difference between |
|
a working class guy who has talent and luck and makes it in ENTERTAINMENT and a capitalist spawn who uses Diddy's money to educate himself in how to screw said working class and starts "at the bottom" of Diddy's company (or Diddy's FRIEND'S company, same difference) at 50k per year? IOW, in your mind there's no difference between a guy who actually DID make it from nothing to something AND STAYS TRUE TO HIS ROOTS and a guy who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and "makes it". Do I have your reasoning correct?

3 homes, 6 figure salary, engineering degree that will keep me employed for life, beautiful loving wife, travels all over the world...
...not bad for a Black guy who needed Gov't food stamps (Socialism, thank you) to eat as a kid, and Pell Grants (socialism, thank you) to get through college.
Sorry folks, but I don't hate America...I hate Republicans and what they do to and in the name of America.
In addition, I show my appreciation for America by paying my taxes AND NOT FUCKING BITCHING ABOUT IT like some people we know.

lifelong employment. There are plenty of unemployed engineers out there, and it could happen to you, just as it did to my husband and a couple of hundred of his colleagues when his company pulled the plug on an entire division.

They've been trickled on till they're soaking wet and it never occurs to them to ask why.

Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 11:53 AM by saracat
with him many times at a bar my family members frequented. He was a close friend of my uncle. He always called me "the kid from NY"( I was in my 20's) and said I was smarter than the old guys and suits. I miss George. I only saw him rarely after I "grew up" and moved away. George truly was a hero and right about most things.

46. Hi Sara, Hi Rocky... Good To See We're STILL On The Same Page! |
|
Even though I've taken a break for a while now. Got a bit of the bug again, or maybe just my depression has lifted for now!
Anyway, thanks for the post and I ALWAYS try to read what you have to say or a thread you may have started!! And yes, I myself can't hold a light to all that you and many of our like minded friends continually add to the political and/or LIFE altering discussions!
I could make excuses for not doing enough, but it's really not good enough. However, I will say that my husband who isn't into politics like I am actually has a problem with me blogging and spending time on what he calls my addiction. I DO stand my ground a lot, but there are times that avoiding an argument wins out. He's a little older than me and never TRULY embraced "women's Lib" way back when! Sooooooo, there ARE times that it gets dicey!!
Still, the political realm is in my blood! And I LOVE George even if he left us too soon!
