I Find The Race For Senate In Florida Both Fascinating, and Ironic... |
|
*posted this as a response in another thread*
The fascinating part is the machinations of the Florida Republican Party turmoil, and the lackluster ability of Democrat Meek to attract any voters, let alone voters in his own party.
The ironic part is...
Apparently, the good people of Florida have bought into the "Don't Let Those Crazy Rightwing Republicans Get Into Power" argument.
According to the polling, they think the only way to prevent Rubio from getting into the Senate is to support Crist.
You see... the "Don't Let Those Crazy Rightwing Republicans Get Into Power" argument, does not necessarily mean supporting Democrats in order to keep the loons out.
That's the giant loophole in the argument, and is also known as...
being hoisted on your own petard.

1. Right wing or moderate, it's still a Republican and will |
|
obstruct anything on demand. Screw that. You're either for keeping Republicans out of power or you are not. It is that simple.
How are things improved if a Republican masquerading as an Independent obstructs legislation instead of having it obstructed by a tea bagger. The result is identical.
Supporting Crist is supporting yet another Republican.
That's my opinion.

4. And You Entitled To Your Opinion, As Am I... |
|
And in my opinion... if Meek truly has only 12% support at this late date in the game, there is NO WAY IN HELL he can turn that around by November.
So... if it comes down to Rubio or Crist... I take Crist every time.
Rubio CANNOT be allowed into the Senate.
And BTW - I thought serious Democrats were all about the "lesser of two evils" vote strategy.

5. Well, whatever. Since you don't vote in Florida, your opinion |
|
is moot anyhow. But, that's OK. Support the lesser of two Republican evils. It won't make any difference, since you can't vote for him.
I'm never for the lesser of two evils. I'm for the Democrats. I've not met any candidate who supported everything I support, and don't ever to expect to. I do not, however, ever vote for obstructionists. Crist is a Republican. He will obstruct. It is part of his nature.

vote for a Republican, now, am I? I have relatives in Florida. They're voting for Meek. I've discussed it with them more than once.
I guess you're more pragmatic than I am. You're willing to support a Republican. I never am willing to do that. Period.

2. I notice many non-Floridians showing this concern. Once again... |
|
Meek is weak and will never win this particular election. Crist will win in a landslide and undoubtedly caucus with Democrats. He has stated he's had conversations with Harry Reid. I'm sorry you're not happy about this but that's the way it is.... Go Charlie!!!!!

vote for a Republican. So, I guess you're right. Ugh!
As JFK said,
"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, continued and dishonest---but the myth--- persistent, persuasive and unrealistic."
The myth that Crist is not a Republican is the lie here. One fucking obstructionist is the same as any other, as far as I'm concerned.

10. The problems lay more with the Democratic Party in FL |
|
and how things are done and who they are supporting. Greene is running as a D but he could just as easily be an R. The only D who seems to have their campaign act together as well as her strong message to stand up against the rethugs is Alex Sink (and even she has strong DLC tendencies).
