2. But why "in today's dollars" ?

I appreciate the info. But why do they always want to show us facts like this in "today's dollars" ? Why not in the real dollars of the time ? For instance the chart showing the price of gasoline circa 1970 indicates it was about $1.50 "in today's dollars". But in the dollars of the time, it was about 20 cents a gallon. Comparing the rise from 20 cents to $3.00 is more accurate and more honest. It seems to be a way that the government (and their allies in Big Business) tries to hide the true damage done to us by inflation.

Not complaining, but just inquiring.

Willie
