Dobson and Perkins will now be the most powerful RW Fundamentalists' Leaders... |
|
Don't be fooled, there is always another 'fundamentalists' leader' ready to step in and fill the void.
IMHO Falwell was not nearly as powerful with RW Fundamentalists today as he was ten years ago.
However, Falwell's followers will most likely look to Dobson and Perkins for their instructions. It will concentrate their power in dealing with the potential Repub Nominees.

1. Sure, just like the Taliban. |
|
But they won't be around much longer either. Dobson and Perkins I mean.

2. They're not some spring chickens either. |

I really feel that this is the beginning of the downfall of the theocrats. Maybe within the next decade, they'll go crawling back to the dark, scary corner of the earth from whence they came.

4. That is true! But there are plenty of young aggressive fundamentalists ready to take their place... |
|
IMHO Falwell was the weakest of the three, having gone through tough financial times in the past prevented him from accumulating the wealth most people assume he had.
Rev. Moon was behind Falwell financially, and you know there were strings attached.
Falwell was an ardent 'point man' for the religious right, going on television claiming he represented far more Christians than he really did --and the MSM ate it up.
When the Moral Majority dried up, he closed it down claiming it had fulfilled its purpose.
I think his passing will not affect the present RW Conservative Fundamentalist Base as much as people here believe.

These people trust each other even less then they trust their opponents, they tend to keep things close to the vest and won't share power with someone who's not related.
Just because they make nice in public, doesn't mean they don't talk about each other.
Remember Falwell took over Jim Baker's ministry, and that didn't exactly work out all that well in the end.
Someone will try to take over, and the fighting will be kept private, but when the smoke has cleared all that Falwell built will be less then it is now.

5. Don't forget how Falwell 'helped' Jimmy Swaggert during his time of need.... |
|
Swaggert later claimed that Falwell tried to take over all his religious assets, his television fundraising lists, etc. under the pretense that he was counselling Swaggert during his rehabilitation.

7. Falwell started the rise of the Right Wing Fundies |
|
back in the 80s with the "Moral Majority". They were instrumental in the election of "saint" Ronald Reagan. Yes, unfortunately, we have reaped with he sowed.

8. Hey, don't forget Pat Robertson! |

The verse from Matthew 24:28 comes to mind here:

9. They're already more powerful than he ever was... |
|
Jerry's heyday was the 80's, and even then Dobson and others had more power over their flocks.
Falwell just got more mainstream attention.
