I will vote for Democrats in November
I will vote for Democrats in November, 2010

If there is a Democratic primary race in 2012 with a challenger who:
Takes a strong line on the economy that comports with my beliefs, or
Is an "out" atheist, or
Is an "out" civil libertarian (think ACLU, not Ron Paul)
I will vote for that person in the primary.

I would probably be concerned that supporting someone in a primary might make Obama look weaker, but

Keep in mind, there is no other way for me to vote my support of those issues except in the primary framework, because

I will vote for the Democratic nominee in November 2012.

1. I will vote for real Democrats
I will NOT vote for DINO's. It doesn't matter which office they seek.
If they do not stand for progressive ideals--they may as well be a republican.

2. I will vote for Democrats that do not have bigoted views.
I will never again vote for racists and/or homophobes.

5. In other words you will continue the insanity,
Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result every time. Good luck with that, it hasn't worked well for the past few decades.

6. Yes, but my insanity will feature a few more jobs than the other insanity
When voting I find myself unable to act in ways with direct deleterious results for the poor and marginal.

Yes, it is a protection racket. True.

But the Republican downside really does replace the looming ten-year Obama recession with a straight-up depression.

The thing about cat-shit versus dog-shit is that cat-shit really is somewhat less odious.

8. I will vote for individuals I agree with and feel I morally can support.
That includes NO Republicans, NO Libertarians, and SOME Democrats.

9. "I will vote for the Democratic nominee in November 2012."
That's exactly how I felt in 2008 and I feel the same thinking ahead to 2010 and 2012. We can't afford to let the Republicans back in control.

12. I need to see that they care about those like me...

There is one demographic I think the Democrats really need to go after, one they have largely ignored -- middle class workers who are not in a union and work in the private sector. This is a group that is currently homeless -- neither party really speaks for them -- and are increasingly desperate, disillusioned and exasperated.

The Democrats have demonstrated they have the back of union workers and, with the recent teacher "jobs bill" and aid to cash-strapped states, public sector employees. Yet those of us in the private sector watch the corporatists (and their mostly GOP buddies) take the jobs to India and to China, creating more unemployment and a costlier social safety net, while they privatize the gains from throwing those Americans out of work. And we're not seeing the Democrats do anything about it. They only seem concerned about protecting the middle class jobs that come with government jobs or a union card.

I'm not sure how much I can support Democrats at this point unless they really take a stand and start taking decisive and meaningful measures to protect middle class jobs in the non-union private sector the way they have stepped up to prop up union and public sector jobs. Whether that means harsher measures for job exports or to aid in organizing more of the private sector remains to be seen -- but either way it shows they are the party of protecting ALL middle class workers. How about it, Democrats? Do you want us or not? Are you really for the little guys, or only when they have a government job or a union card?
